THOUBAL, June 22: In an embarrassing incident, unidentified miscreants sneaked into the sacred Ibudhou Pakhangba Temple at Uyal Mamang Ching, Thoubal district in the intervening night of June 20 and 21 and took away money kept inside a box.
The money that the miscreants looted after breaking the box was donated by devotees who came to the temple for worshipping.
Addressing a press meet at the complex of Ibudhou Pakhangba Temple today in connection with the incident, secretary of Ibudhou Pakhangba Thougal Lup N Surmangol Meitei said that incident has left villagers of Uyal and nearby villages disappointed and furious.
He further said that the act of the miscreants is an insult to one`™s religion and its followers.
The temple is a sacred place where thousands of people from different places visit every year on the auspicious occasion of Cheiraoba to seek blessing and well being, he continued.
Stating that to break door and window of a temple and steal its properties is a sinful act which is highly condemnable, he suspected that the act may have committed by some vested persons to create animosity amongst different communities.
He recalled that there had been an instance in the past where some unidentified persons stole a fog light erected on top of the temple.
The secretary of the religious group said that a written statement will be submitted to Thoubal Police Station at the earliest to arrest those involved in the unfortunate act at the earliest.
He also said that Umang Lai Kanba Lup (UKAL) will be apprised about the incident that took place in the temple.
