IMPHAL, August 16: The youth wing of the BJP, BJYM will seek the Centre to investigate the list of Thoubal Dam rehabilitation package beneficiaries. This in view of reported fraud by the authorities in drawing up the list of beneficiaries said Oinam Malesh, president BJYM Manipur Pradesh today.
He was speaking to media person in connection with the paucity of evacuation facilities made available to the people of Chadong village, in a function to mark the BJYM presenting a boat to the villagers.
The boat is donated by K Robindro vice president BJYM and convenor IT cell BJP Manipur on behalf of BJYM Manipur Pradesh.
Malesh further said that now Chadong village has lost important communication channels with the rest of the Manipur state and country. He said around six to seven thousand population of the village has lost its connection route to the state capital, and the boat that the BJYM presented today is a simple show of solidarity.
He further said the relation of many decades between hills and valley has been damaged by the present Congress government.
Now the people of Chadong village have no roads, medical facilities, no power, no drinking water, no education facilities.
Malesh further said that today the Chadong villagers has submitted a memorandum to BJYM, addressed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, informing him of the vague list of rehabilitated villagers.
The list has 455 beneficiaries, and around 350 households have taken rehab packages. The memorandum however said the genuine number of households of Chadong village is only 230 numbers.
Out of the 230, only around 100 households have received the rehab package it said.
The BJYM found some black sheep amongst the villagers playing along with the state government to dupe the innocent people Chadong, Malesh said.
The BJYM will submit a detail report of the fake list to concern Central authorities, he added.
BJYM team has also confirmed the use of tarpaulin sheets and polythene bags to stop the Earth Dam leakages in the Thoubal Multipurpose Dam, he said.
The BJYM will request the Central authorities to investigation the Thoubal Dam and all the fraudulence involved, said O Malesh.
Chadong village authority, MH Shimthar said the village is only 17 km from Imphal but now the state government has created a totally deserted village by erecting the Thoubal Multipurpose Dam in Maphou area. Now the village has no means of importing and exporting its needs and produces, he lamented.
The Manipur government has treated Chadong as a step child, he said, adding the BJYM team`™s arrival with a wooden boat is very reassuring to the people of Chadong that not everybody has forgotten them.
He further said that upstream villages of Chadong right up to Litan area have become submerged by the Dam water. Downstream of Thoubal Dam, we heard leakage of water in the portion of Earth Dam and we have seen how the Dam leakages is being sealed with tarpaulin sheets, polythene bags and sometimes even with cement bags filled with sand.
He said that the people of the area are afraid the Dam would collapse someday and cautioned the downstream peoples of Thoubal District and other to be alert all the time.
Also present during the visit were Dr Antas Khan Vice-President BJYM, Th Basanta Singh vice-president BJYM, Y Gopi vice-president BJYM, K Bikramjit vice-president and media coordinator BJYM, Phonin general secretary organisation BJYM, Naoba treasurer BJYM, and Tarzan, executive member.
