IMPHAL, September 11: A seven-day long training on Life Skills Education for School Teachers of Manipur being organized by Department of Commerce, Manipur University under the sponsorship of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, Chennai commenced today at the premises of the department
The function was graced by Prof. H.Nandakumar Sarma, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University and N Praveen Singh, Director of Directorate of Education (S) as chief guest and president respectively.
Around 50 lecturers from various Higher Secondary Schools of the State were also present at the programme with Dr A Rajmani Singh, Professor & Head attending as the training co-coordinator.
Addressing the gathering, Dr A Rajmani Singh, co- ordinator of the programme highlighted the importance of life skills education in day-to-day life. He added that knowledge of Life Skills will certainly enable the people to have a better life and solve their problems encountered in life.
Prof. H. Nandakumar Sarma, mentioned various programmes related to skill development and vocational courses being taken up in the university and new programmes to be conducted in future under KAUSHAL Kendra.
These skill development programmes and various B.Voc. Courses will enable to prepare the youths to take the opportunities and face the challenges of India`™s Act East Policy, he asserted.
He also promised to handover the Commerce Department a new building within a short period of time which is in under construction stage at present.
N Praveen Singh highlighted the problems of school education in Manipur, saying that the role of teachers and the need of their commitment in their duties have been emphasized.
He also expressed that the present training programme will enhance the knowledge of Life Skills Education to the teachers for further imparting life skill techniques to our adolescent youths to solve their day-to-day problems.
