IMPHAL, September 16: At least six persons including a girl child lost their lives when a Tata Sumo passenger vehicle they were travelling veered off track and fell into a deep gorge near Awangkhul Part II along National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) under Noney Police Station, Tamenglong district today around 3 pm.
According to reliable reports, the ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number AS-11-BC-7960 with 11 passengers was heading towards Imphal from Jiribam when its driver lost control and plunged into a 300-meter deep gorge killing six of them and injuring several others.
Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
The injured persons were administered first aid by railway workers and security personnel. As condition of five of them is said to be in critical, the death toll may rise.
The six deceased persons have been brought to Imphal by police. The injured persons were admitted to hospital based in Imphal for further treatment, the reports said.
