IMPHAL, September 28: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today chaired a condolence meeting on the sudden demise of the Governor of Manipur Dr Syed Ahmed on September 27 at a private hospital in Mumbai after a brief illness.
The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Manipur Secretariat South Block.
The Chief Minister also led the other dignitaries present in offering floral tributes to a photograph of the (L) Dr Syed Ahmed.
A two minutes silence was also observed in honour of the departed leader.
Expressing his condolences on sudden demise of the Governor, the Chief Minister said Dr Ahmed was an eminent leader having great personality who held many positions right from his election as an MLA to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five times.
He also served as a Minister in Maharashtra and was the Governor of Jharkhand prior to being appointed as the Governor of Manipur on May 16 this year, Ibobi said.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that PHE Minister I Hemochandra Singh, who is in Delhi will be attending the last rites of the (L) Dr Syed Ahmed which is being held today in Mumbai as a representative of the Manipur Government.
He said he himself along with Deputy Chief Minister wanted to join the funeral but because of the unavailability of any flight service from Imphal to reach Mumbai in time for attending the last rites he advised minister I Hemochandra and some officials of the Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi to attend the last rites.
Ministers, parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, Army Officers and other civil and police officers attended the condolence meeting.
The Komrem Union, NEI deeply condole the sudden dismiss of the Governor Dr. Syed Ahmed and share the sorrow of the bereaved family. The union also prays to Almighty for the departed soul to rest in peace, also comfort for the left behind family members.
