O Joy predicts President turning down three bills on `technical grounds`, but declines to point out reasons

IMPHAL, Oct 17: The three Bills recently passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly in a special session purportedly to protect the indigenous people of the State from migrant influx is likely to be turned down by the President of India from giving his assent on technical grounds, opined veteran politician Okram Joy Singh.

In an exclusive interview with the IFP, the veteran politician who is considered to be one of the few politicians familiar with parliamentary proceedings, further disclosed that the matter will be made public at the right moment but declined to point out the so called `technical ground`™, and rather suggested that it was best to wait for the `right moment`™.

Reiterating that the rejection of the three Bills would be nothing but on `Technical Ground`, he appealed that it would be wise that the people refrain from viewing the outcome as `personal matter`™ towards anyone including the President of India, the BJP or the NDA government at the Centre.

Meanwhile, the veteran politician strongly reacted to certain comments made by some BJP leaders with regards to his sudden entry into the party through online membership registration, and said even the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi joined BJP through online membership registration.

Whether to validate his (O Joy) registration rests on the higher command of the party, he continued.

Reasoning his entry to the party, O Joy revealed that he revered the ideology of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi`™s on `Regionalism aspiration, national outlook`.

Given his strong role as opposition MLA during his entire political career so far, most of it against the Congress coupled with the `regionalism`™ aspect, he deem it fit to join the BJP, he said adding that he consulted his elders, workers before joining the BJP.

When enquired to make his comeback in active politics, he responded he is not in the position to comment whether he will be contesting in the upcoming Manipur State Assembly election scheduled to be held in 2017, besides it was too early to give his comments on the matter, he asserted.

He further said that he had met BJP`™s president, Amit Shah and other party leaders but till date he had not bargain with regards to the matter and at the same time he had not been given any commitment from the party side till date, he concluded.
