Commercialization of transgender community event: Time to make a call

Mobilising and organising the transwomen community of Manipur have taken decades of dogged grassroots activism and celebratory community events to reach out to as many transwomen as possible. Such events became strategically important in addressing the number of issues facing Manipur’s transwomen since they are much more effective in bringing the community together than the usual activism workshops or meetings.

It is believed that the nature of the spleen of a pig predicts the future; if the spleen bears blemish, it is a sign of bad omen, but if the spleen bears no blemish it is a sign of good omen. A healthy spleen is believed to have indicating prosperity in crops, livestock and population. After the rite, the internal organs (head, liver, lung and entrails) of the victim (Guak Babung) are buried at the same spot with ritual. It may be noted that the burial site is kept secret and nobody is known except the elder who performed it.

HC directs

IMPHAL, Apr 13: In a landmark judgement, a single bench of High Court of Manipur comprising of Justice Kh Nobin Singh on April 10 directed Director of Health Services to pay a sum of Rs 33, 725 with 8 percent interest per annum from January 2015 within three months regarding non-payment in lieu of unutilised earned leave of Dr Th Suresh Singh while the latter was working as Director of Health Services.
