World Breastfeeding Week

IMPHAL, Aug 5 : World Breastfeeding Week celebration being organised by Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM) under the theme “Sustainable Breastfeeding Together” began today at GP Women’s College. The inaugural function was graced by Education Minister Th Radheshyam as chief guest, principal of the college Dr B Lalhari as president and advisor of BPAM Dr Ksh Chourjit as guest of honour. Speaking at the function, Minister Radheshyam maintained that breast milk provides the ideal nutrition for infants as it has a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein, and fat everything your baby needs to grow.
He said that breast milk contains antibodies that help a baby fight off viruses and bacteria.

IMPHAL, Aug 5 : The Red Shield Division is conducting Manipur Super 30, which is sponsored by COAL Indian Ltd and the coaching is provided by CSRL. The interviews for Manipur Super 30 were held on July 21 in which 59 candidates appeared, said a press release of PIB Defence.
The results were declared and 15 candidates have been selected. PMKVY and NSDC under the supervision of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship distributed the certificates in a simple gathering organised by Nachou Handloom Cluster at Nachou Kha community hall.

IMPHAL, Aug 5: All Manipur Recognised Private School’s Welfare Association, Imphal, organised a meeting at Gandhi Memorial hall today and resolved to take up various steps in connection with Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Bill 2017.
The resolutions include establishment of a high power committee with members selected from along all the stakeholders concerned of the State, submitting memorandum to the Governor, Chief Minister and the Education Minister for the compulsory exclusion of all the recognised private schools recognised prior to the passing of the Bill, declaration of Tuesday, August 8 as holiday by all the recognised private schools of the State as a mark of protest against the passing of the Bill and to take up legal action against the Bill if all else fail.

IMPHAL, Aug 5: The Loktak Project Affected Areas Action Committee, Committee on Human Rights, Manipur (COHR), Centre for Research and Advocacy Manipur (CRA) and Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) have drawn the attention of the people to the absence of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and the Government of Manipur regarding the operation and functioning of the 105 MW Loktak Multipurpose Hydro Electric Project which was commissioned in 1984.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, CRA secretary Jiten Yumnam , alleged that NHPC has been given a free hand and has also refused to take responsibility for the suffering caused to the affected people and the environmental hazards in Loktak wetlands.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh left for Lao People’s Democratic Republic today to attend the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-India dialogue relations celebration on August 7 at Vientiane, which is the capital city.

 He will attend as special guest and will deliver the keynote address at the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-India dialogue relations celebration which is to be held at Muong Thani Hotel. He was accompanied by advisor, Rajat Sethi.

The event is jointly organised by the ASEAN India Business Council (AIBC), Lao PDR chapter and embassy of republic of India in Lao PDR and supported by Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) of Lao PDR.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Imphal West today remanded the two accused who were arrested in connection with the Oinam Sawombung hooch tragedy, remanded to further police custody for four days.

The accused, mother and son, identified as Apu Kamei alias Kamei Apu, 24 and Bina Kamei, 45, produced before the JMIC.

During their appearance, the IO of the case while pleaded the court for police remand submitted that the accused have confessed that they supplied the liquor which claimed five lives and hospitalized 89 others.

The IO further said that the accused also confessed to have supplied the liquor to one Oinam Shyamkumar and Elangbam Imo from Oinam Sawombung, who are presently in police custody.

The police further submitted that Apu and Bina, although confessed to have manufactured and supplied the liquor, are still concealing fact leading to the death and hospitalization of several others.

Moreover, it further submitted that examination of several prosecution witnesses was yet to be completed during the police custody period.

After having examined the plea, the court remanded the accused mother and son to police custody till August 8.
