Kuki militant assaults Church leader: Tamei bodies

Tamei headquarters based organizations alleged today that a cadre of Kuki Revolutionary (KRA) assaulted a church leader. The victim has been identified as one N Michael, Secretary of Centre Church (CC) Tamei headquarters, Tamenglong district.

Strongly condemning the incident, the Tamei Headquarters Student Union (THQSU), the Tamei Headquarters Youth Club (THQYC) and the Women Front of Tamei Headquarters (WFTHQ) alleged that the church leader from Tamei was assaulted in the evening of October 27 at Chalwa in full view of the public by a man who identified himself as a cadre of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA). The Tamei based organizations said the church leader was returning home from Imphal by a bike when some men stopped him at Chalwa and interrogated him. 

There were altogether three persons involved in the whole ugly episode but it was one of the KRA cadres who assaulted the church leader,  the Tamei organizations alleged.

According to the Tamei based organizations quoting the victim, two of the three men identified themselves as those of KRA cadres.

They said that the KRA cadres asked the church leader so many irrelevant things. “According to the church leader, two of the three men identified themselves as those of KRA cadres,” the Tamei organisations added.

The Tamei based organizations then said that the church leader was detained till 10 pm at Chalwa from 7: 45 pm by the KRA cadres. He was kicked and slapped by one of the cadres but the people around the Chalwa village did not intervene, the Tamei based organizations rued. They also alleged that the KRA cadres threatened to shoot the victim in the head. The church leader’s wallet containing Rs 7800 and his mobile phone were taken away by the KRA cadres, the Tamei organisations further alleged.

The three Tamei headquarters based organizations then appealed the State Government to “tackle the menace of Kuki militants who are signatories of the Suspension of Operation (SoO)”. They alleged that people travelling along the IT Road are going through harrowing times as Kuki undergrounds harass the “innocent public”. The Tamei based organizations also appealed the Kuki civil organizations including the Kuki Inpi “to help in bringing order in the area”.
