The World War-I Tangkhul Naga Labour Corp Association (WWITNLCA) has released its official calendar to mark its activity for the upcoming centenary celebration of the First World War Tangkhul Naga Labour Corp which is slated for April 18 and April 19, 2018, at Ukhrul district.
Chairman of WWITNLCA, Victor W Kaping has stated that the association was formed in 2016 with the descendants of Hao-Tangkhuls who were a part of the British Labour Corps in the First World War. It was done so to remember and honour those forefathers who had sacrificed their precious lives and rendered their selfless service in the said war, he added.
He further stated that the centenary celebration will be held under the theme ‘Dignity and Honour’ and it was also urged upon every Tangkhuls to contribute in commemorating their forefathers’ admirable lives and contributions.
A Heritage Memorial Park will be constructed in memory of the 1200 labour corps from the Hao-Tangkhul community, he added.
On the same occasion, secretary of WWITNLCA, Zanyo Varam also informed that the aim and purpose of bringing out the calendar is to raise awareness on the activities of the association. He further appealed to all Tangkhuls to extend their support in making the centenary celebration a success.
The vice-president of Tangkhul Naga Long, P. Peimi released the official calendar of the WWITNLCA at the association’s office located at Viewland, Ukhrul.
Meanwhile, vice-president, TNL strongly condemned the incident on December 22, in which an unknown miscreant hurled a bomb at a crowded lane in Viewland, Ukhrul. He appealed to everyone to maintain peace and harmony in the festive season.
Today’s programme was attended by the representatives of Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (Tangkhul Headman Association), Tangkhul Shanao Long (Tangkhul Women’s League) and other well-wishers.
