Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution minister Karam Shyam attended Christmas celebrations on December 24 at Laiching Meipou Baptish Church in Laiching Meipou village, Machi Block of Tengnoupal district.
The minister was warmly welcomed by the villagers led by chief and elders of Laiching Meipou village, which has only 60 households and a population of 600 people. Karam Shyam appreciated the villagers for upholding the traditional customs and rituals of the forefathers.
While stating that love conquers everything, Karam Shyam urged the villagers to follow the teachings of the Lord.
‘Irrespective of one’s faith, we all have a sense of duty to ourselves and to one another to make a difference in the world’, said Karam Shyam.
The minister said that he is first minister to visit the village and also stated that people of the area has compelled him to visit and celebrate Christmas. He also promised to help the villagers in developing the area by approaching concerned MLA, deputy commissioner and other officials.
As part of the Christmas celebrations, cultural dance and other performances of Maring tribe were performed.
The celebration was also attended by Revenue commissioner, Th. Chittaranjan Singh, CAF and PD director, Ranjan Yumnam, deputy secretary, Revenue, Y. Rajen Singh and other officials.
