A 5-day orientation cum training programme for empowerment of persons with disabilities was launched today at Manipur Press Club with the induction of training programme for special educators.
The programme was jointly organised by Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons and State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. It was sponsored by National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan).
The second day programme targets to train the Angamwadi workers. On the following days training of nurses, identification and assessment camps and awareness programme in school and colleges were scheduled respectively.
State commissioner for persons with disabilities Dr. R.K Kumarjit Singh said that this annual programme that has been started conducting from the last few years bring lot of positive impact specially to teachers, parents, nurses and so on.
He said on the fourth day of the programme certificates will be distributed after the identification of mentally disabled person followed by distribution of kits or assistive device. It will be conducted at GM Hall. He urged all the participants to carry the message and conveyed to their communities about the 4th day of the five day long programme so that mentally retarded person living in their own locality may grab the opportunity which is going to be provided on this day.
Assistant professor paediatrics of National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disability (NIEPID) Dr. Mary Anurupa had explained NIEPID as an autonomous body that operates under ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and its headquarter is located at Manovikasnagar Secunderabad.
With the objective of empowering person with mental retardation NIEPID is extending various training programmes and services in many part of India from the past 33 years. As a part of it the services are reaching in all North East States, she stated.
She suggested all the participants to apply whatever they learn from the training programme in their daily life.
Dr. Mary Anurupa, T. Mugesh of NIEPID and Kamalalakhsmi Chongtham of State Inclusive Education of the Disabled (IED) SSA/SMS Manipur were the resource persons on the inaugural programme.
Dr. R.K Kumarjit Singh Dr. Mary Anurupa and T. Mugesh attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
