IMPHAL, November 6: Official sources said it has been confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would grace the valedictory function of the Sangai Festival as the chief guest on November 30.
The State government had formally invited the Prime Minister to grace the Sangai Festival as the chief guest. A reliable source said that the itinerary of PM Modi to the North East region tentatively includes the visit of Manipur Sangai Festival on November 30.
Highly placed sources said that the Prime Minister will attend an All India DGP conference at Guwahati in the morning of November 30 for an hour. He will deliver the valedictory address in the conference which will go on from November 29 to 30. In the conference, PM Modi will be accompanied by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister of State, Kiran Rijiju.
Sources further stated that PM Modi will arrive in Manipur in the afternoon of November 30 to attend the Sangai Festival and will halt for a night after which he will leave for Nagaland to attend the Hornbill festival as the chief guest.
According to the sources, the official confirmation for his visit will be relayed within a few days.
Meanwhile, official source also said that the State is awaiting confirmation from various invitees to grace the ten days festival as the chief guest, guests of honour and especial guests from November 21 to 30.
The State government has sent invitations to Chief Minister of Chin State of Myanmar through the Ambassador of India to Myanmar, Ambassador of Japan, the High Commissioner of Australia, Consulate General of USA, British Deputy High Commissioner and all the ambassadors of the neighbouring foreign countries.
