IMPHAL, November 9: Manipur is among the top States in the country, which has complaints from different sections of the people on matters of corruption practiced by the Congress government,. The Central government will soon verify the charges and those found guilty will be punished.
This was stated by Shyam Jaju, BJP national secretary, at a press meet held today at the Nityaipat Pat Chuthek office of Manipur Pradesh BJP, after the launching of membership mission function cum State level workshop.
Jaju said that a target of 1 lakh membership has been made for the State by next year to strengthen the party for future elections. BJP has only 3 lakh membership across the country, but the recent Lok Sabha result has shown that around 17.65 crore population have supported the party to sweep the election, he said.
Jaju continued that people can enroll into the party through mobile miss calls from November this year to March 31, 2015. The mobile miss call will reach the office of national BJP president, Amit Shah directly, and the call data will be separated according to regions and States, he added.
The NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will give special focus to the Northeast and this will be reflected in the budgetary allocations, he said. “The government is committed to transparency and accountability,” Jaju added.
Thanaojam Chaoba, the State BJP president, who was also present in the press meet, said the Congress government of the State cannot escape from corruption charges by inviting the PM at the Sangai Festival, before alleging that the State government is the most corrupt in India.
Chaoba further continued that till today, the Congress government has not implemented a single project in a proper manner, marred by irregularities in fund management. The government had promised to complete the construction of Sanjenthong Bridge before the Sangai Festival, but it has failed because of corrupt practices of the authorities concerned, he alleged.
He also pointed out that the State BJP has targeted enrolling 50 primary members and 5 active members in all the 2600 polling stations of 60 Assembly constituencies of Manipur. If the enrolment drive is successful, the total membership will be 1.3 lakh though the minimum target is 1 lakh, thereby the party can face any opponent in the coming elections, he added.
