JIRIBAM, November 9: A one-day legal awareness programme and poetry recital session was held on Saturday at the auditorium of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School.
The programme was jointly organised by the Child Welfare Ashram of Jiribam, Manipur Library Association, Imphal and Raja Rammohun Roy Foundation, Kolkata.
K Chaoba Singh, librarian of Govt Polytechnic Imphal spoke on “Library as a Learning Temple. RK Devrita Devi, lecturer of Manipur Public School spoke on RRRLF Scheme & Public Libraries, and S Chaoba Singh, retired general manager of DIC spoke on “Present Situation of Libraries in Manipur” as resource persons.
Speaking as chief guest, Ch Mineshore, former BDO of Jiribam, lauded the organisers for their effort to organise such awareness programme in Jiribam. He added that it will help the people of Jiribam to inculcate the habit of reading, for which a movement to institute a library in Jiribam has been indicated.
L Sabita, president of MALA, who presided the function, added that it is important to gain knowledge by reading books. Library is a big social asset and plays an important role in building a society. She also pointed out that though Jiribam is under Imphal East District, it could soon get the status of a revenue district in the future.
The programme was also attended by Principal of Jiribam Higher Secondary School, L Ranjit and other dignitaries.
