IMPHAL, Apr 25: Peeved with the unwarranted steps taken up by the Thoubal Municipal Council regarding allocation of sheds for women fish mongers at Thoubal Market, women fish mongers at the market have launched hunger strike at Thoubal Wangmataba Waiting Shed from today.
As stated by the fish mongers who were present at the protest demonstration, there had not been any understanding brought about between the Thoubal Municipal Council and fish mongers till date regarding the allocation of sheds at the market.
They expressed discontentment on the Chief Minister and officials of Thoubal Municipal Council for remaining as silent spectators to the month-long impasse over the allocation of sheds.
Reiterating that altogether 39 women fish mongers at Thoubal Market have submitted Xerox copy of their vendor license to Thoubal Municipal Council as instructed by the council but there has been no response so far, the women fish mongers pledged that the hunger strike will continue till their legitimate demands are met.
They also cautioned that any untoward incident arises thereof should be the sole responsibility of the government and Thoubal Municipal Council.
Placards inscribed with slogans such as `We condemn highhandedness of Chairperson of Thoubal Municipal Council`™, `We demand resignation of the Chairperson`™, `Shift women fish mongers to their original sheds`™ etc were used at the protest demonstration.
