KANGPOKPI, May 9: The Government of Manipur is working wholeheartedly with dedication while burning the proverbial midnight oil to bring about over all development and now we have seen lots of changes in the last few years in the field of education, tourism, power supply, industries and commerce and other areas, asserted Chief Secretary P.C. Lawmkunga and said that the future of student community and the people of Manipur is very bright.
The state Chief Secretary was speaking at the valedictory cum prize distribution function of District Inter School Sports Meet under the theme `Play for Change` organized by Senapati District Students`™ Association with the District Administration today at Mini Stadium, Senapati DHQ.
He maintained that Government of Manipur has been trying its best to promote quality education under RTE by way of providing infrastructures and improving academic circle before adding that if the people of the state work hard with commitment and a feeling of oneness, unity and integrity will be able to achieve new stature.
The Chief Secretary further said that the students`™ organizations in Manipur have a vast role towards the welfare of the people like the government do while adding that the government as well as the students`™ organizations, NGOs and other civil organizations are working for the welfare of the people.
However, the little difference between the government and others organizations is that the latter have been working something like a pressure group demanding something from the government and also sometime harassing and creating problem to the government officials employees, lamented the IAS Officer.
The Chief Secretary stated that creating problem in the government works, staging strike, graving government workers, attacking offices and making thing easier said than done will not give us any credit in future while adding that the government is aware of the needs of the people in terms of quality education, good academic environment, teaching aids, teachers and others.
He also said that the students`™ organizations and the people should also understand that Manipur is a poor state having limited resource mobilization and what the government can do and what it cannot do also.
Stating that the government has been trying to provide everything at its best but it has its own limitation in terms of funds and man power, the Chief Secretary added that the people should bear with the government for sometime but assured that the better day of the state is not far away.
Speaking at the occasion P. Vaiphei, IAS, Commissioner (Hr. & Tech. Edu/SCERT), Government of Manipur said that the absence of Higher Secondary School and Government College in the district is a matter of concerned particularly for the Education Department while announcing that the government is establishing a totally new higher secondary school in Senapati and the approval has already been given by the Cabinet a few days back.
Process of consulting with the Finance Department is on and the order in this regard will be coming very soon, he added.
He also said that qualified applicants who are eligible for lecturer in Higher Secondary School from the district will be given preference when the new Higher Secondary School is established.
The Commissioner (Hr. & Tech. Edu/SCERT) also sought cooperation from the people for the successful establishment of the college.
Besides N. Ashok Kumar, IAS, Secretary to CM & Director YAS, Government of Manipur who attended the occasion as guest of honour, the function was also graced by C. Arthur, IAS, Director of Hr. Education and Chairman of COHSEM; Kabib K. IPS, SP Senapati and Ng. Bhogendra Meetei, ASPD/SSA as special guests and Jacintha Lazarus, IAS, DC Senapati as host guest.
Meanwhile, Senapati District Students`™ Association and Private Schools`™ Association submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary demanding release of funds for construction of a multi-purpose hall in the district.
A march-pass parade by students from 23 schools in the district and prize distribution marked the event.
Apart from students, many CSOs leaders were also present during the function.
