IMPHAL, April 12: Speaker Lokeshwar Singh escort attack has made news in the national media. The guests of the Times Now show inclusive of Binalaxsmmi Nepram has condemned the `VIP racism`™ and urged that the public needs to condemn such haughtiness meted out by VIPs.
Several callers to the show of asked whether the VIPs owned the road and Lokeshwar needs to make a public apology and the escort personnel should be tried as per the law. The host of the show even went to the extent of saying that the Speaker should resign from his status.
In CNN IBN, it was also discussed that none of the other political parties of the State, including the BJP has not raised a single condemnation, regarding the high handedness of the Speaker and his escort team.
Arambam Vandana, wife of Amitabh Arambam, recounted that the Speaker did not lift a finger to stop the assault and even when she herself was threatened. Her two children were traumatized when they saw their father beaten up black and blue.
She asked who is going to bear responsibility for the sufferings as the State government machinery is set on protecting the Speaker despite his crime.
On the other hand, local youths and meira paibis of Tera Amudon Leirak held a sit in protest and blocked the Sagolband road at Tera for some time today.
The JAC constituted in the regard is going to urge the Chief Minister through a memorandum to give befitting punishment to those involved in the crime. The JAC will meet the Chief Minister on Wednesday.
The main demand of the JAC is to stop the `VIP racism/goondaism`™ and that the authorities in power protect the public instead of exercising their might wrongfully .Another development in the case is regarding the delay tactics in registering the FIR by the police, from reliable sources, it was learnt that owning to mounting public and media pressure, the FIR has been registered at City Police.
Family members of Amitabh also pointed out that the Gypsy that was rammed by Lokeshwar`™s escort is impounded by City Police whereas, the escort vehicles that smashed into Amitabh`™s gypsy is still with the Speaker.
They asserted that law should not be partial and justice should be done. The investigation of the case should not be biased, they added.
The injured sub-inspector is still treated for his injuries at Shija Hospital. Amitabh and his family members state that they will not buckle under pressure till justice is done.
