IMPHAL, May 30: Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution district supply officer, Chandel district SA Halim has alleged that he was physically assaulted by MLA Nunghlung Victor inside the Chandel CA&PD office premises attached to the Chandel DC complex yesterday around 5:30pm.
Addressing a press meet, he said he has been posted in Chandel for the past four years.
He said since some time back, the MLA has been pestering him with a demand to issue permit to one of his (MLA) supporter for transportation of PDS rice from Imphal to Chandel and distribution of the same, which he has been denying as against the government norm.
Yesterday morning, the PA to the MLA had sent an SMS to his mobile phone saying `Aphabadi Thokloiko`™, Halim claimed.
Later in the evening, the MLA came and asked him to issue a permit in the name of one of his supporter for transportation of 1500 quintal of PDS rice from Imphal to Chandel and the subsequent distribution of the rice, he claimed.
When he denied, the MLA slapped him and tried to punch him on his face twice but missed, Halim alleged.
He further said that the incident has been informed to the chief secretary.
