KANGPOKPI, June 18: Training of the fourth batch of the ongoing three days program on Post Harvest Technology at KVK Senapati Campus concluded today while training of the fifth batch began at the same venue.

The ongoing training program on Post Harvest Technology is being organized by Amity International Centre for Post Harvest Technology & Cold Chain Management, (AICPHT&CCM), Amity University, Noida, UP in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Hengbung, Senapati district under the sponsorship of Department of Bio-Technology, Government of India.

More than 35 farmers including rural youths and farm women participated in the fourth batch of the training program which concluded today.

The fifth batch training program was inaugurated by Dr. N. Jyotsna, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Hengbung.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. B.S. Hansra, Professor from AICPHT&CCM, Amity University, Noida, UP emphasized the need for proper utilizations of plentifully available local fruits and vegetables which otherwise go dissipate due to lack of technical know-how of value addition while accenting the prospects and limitations of food processing.

The Professor continued that food processing in Senapati district can be a lucrative vocation for additional income for farmers if taken up thoughtfully while he informed about the Amity University, its campuses and programmes on offer.

Naga Laxmi M. Raman and Dr. Neeru Dubey from Amity University and Nemnu Hangshing from KVK-Senapati are the resource persons in the technical sessions of the training program which was attended by 30 rural girls and boys from different parts of the district.

The participants will be imparted hands on training on pineapple candy making, pineapple juice, mixed vegetables pickles, plum chutney, plum nectar, whole tomato concentrate and passion fruit squash.
