Imphal, 15 July 2015 : According to a press release from the PRO Cell of HQ IGAR(South), the medical team of 41 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) saved the life of a snake bite victim on 14 Jul 15. The victim was identified as Mr H Ngalangzar, aged 84 years, resident of Siruhi village, Dist – Ukhrul.
He was bitten by a venomous snake on right hand and was brought to the unit hospital in a critical condition. The victim was immediately attended by the medical team led by Medical Officer who injected life saving anti snake venom. The timely action taken by the medical team of the Assam Rifles saved the precious life of the victim. The Headman of Siruhi village expressed gratitude to 41 Assam Rifles for the humanitarian gesture.
The PR further states that, 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sect Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) established the Green house for widows of Life Care Centre, Pallel in Chandel district on 15 Jul 15. The Green House was handed over to the village authorities for empowering the women and generating self employment. The project which is a mark of Widow Empowerment has been developed under the “Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme”. The project will go a long way to make the women especially the widows of the area to be self reliant and to assist them to stand on their own feet.
The villagers have started utilizing the green house for plantation of different varieties of ornamental as well as other plants some of which are being sold as saplings to buyers while others will be sold on maturity after the monsoon season. The villagers are grateful to Assam Rifles for this project as this noble project has provided employment as well as revenue to the needy. The profit earned out of the products of Green House is being utilized as financial assistance to the widows.
