IMPHAL, September 6: The initiative of the Rotary Club Imphal to organise a mega free medical camp at the Andro High School for the poor people of Andro is highly appreciated, and if such services continue in other parts of the State, it wouldn`™t be long before Manipur becomes a healthy society, observed Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar today during the inaugural of the camp.

The MLA said with the conduct of the health camp, Andro today certainly feels like a part of Manipur.

Due to the recent flood, a medical camp was needed for long, he continued.

He said medical camps in the remote areas are necessary to educate the girls and women on healthy ways.

Former DG of Rotary Club Dr Ajit Irom said at the moment the club`™s main focus is on Andro and during the medical camp wanted to spread the awareness that the club is financially helping children from BPL families with heart diseases get surgical treatments in Delhi.

The club will finance the entire cost for the treatment.

He said child specialist Dr Chourajit of JNIMS will check the children and the parents of any children found needing immediate treatment, will be advised to take the child to Delhi.

The club has been sponsoring treatment of Children with heart defects from BPL families in Delhi, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, chairman of the Rotary Club medical camp Dr Jitendra said the motto of the club is to service above self.

JNIMS director Dr Devendro said such medical camp is a team work of the private and government doctors with help from local communities.

He said the JNIMS is open for anyone who is found in a serious state during such camp.

Through the service of the Rotary Club, we are targeting to reach all parts of the State.

Today`™s camp was attended by around 25 doctors including specialists, 12 paramedical staff and laboratory staff and nurses from Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Babina Laboratory and Iboyaima Hospital.

During the camp, ENT, EYE, Pediatric, Gynae, Surgery, Ortho, Skin, Pharmacy counters were opened and free medicine worth Rs 2 lakhs were distributed.

Meanwhile, a PRO IGAR (s) statement said Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) teamed up with Flood Relief Manipur to organise a Medical Camp at Keirak village, Thoubal District.

It said a combined medical team comprising of doctors from Flood Relief Manipur and 22 Assam Rifles administered medical help during the camp.
