IMPHAL, October 7: BJP ST Morcha president Faggan Singh Kulaste who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Steering Committee on SC and ST announced that the birth centenary of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu will be observed month long by the Rani Gaidinliu Birth Centenary Year Committee.
He was addressing a press conference today at the BJP Manipur Pradesh office.
Faggan said the month long observation which will commenced from tomorrow is being organised in acknowledgement of Rani Gaidinliu`™s contribution as a freedom fighter of India.
She fought the British and took the highest responsibility to protect the society and culture of her own community, he said.
Starting from a very young age, she struggled against the British Empire and stayed in jail for 14 long years, he continued.
Remembering her contribution, the NDA government has decided to honour her as a leader of the STs.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba said this year Rani Gaidinliu`™s birth anniversary will be observed throughout the nation.
He said she was honoured as a freedom fighter during Atul Bihari Vajpayee`™s government and included recently among 10 selected freedom fighters of India. He said his party has also urged the Central leaders to erect her statue inside the parliament campus in New Delhi.
On November 24, the committee will be organising a function at Nungkao Village of Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong district and is trying to invite the Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP national president Amit Shah to be the chief guest of the function, he said.
