Imphal, Dec 27: In connection with the unbecoming altercation between TN Haokip, IPR Minister and the Manipur Hill Journalists Union (MHJU) team led by its President Th Thangzalian on the 19th of December, 2011 between 1 to 2pm, the Union resolved in a meeting held at Lamka Press Club today that a written ultimatum should be served to the concerned Minister through the press to tender his apology to the MHJU within 48 hours in the printed media.
When the MHJU President met the minister at his office in Imphal in connection with a proposed Internal Press Tour -cum- Refresher Course to Moreh Trade Centre, Manipur, the concerned minister allegedly unbecoming of his position, refused to entertain the MHJU team and used abusing language. He allegedly further said to the team that ‘the Union should not approach and talk to him in regards to any MHJU matters’. The Union, representing all the press institutions in the hills of Manipur, was taken aback and strongly condemned the insults to the press by no less than a minister in the IPR department and have no alternative but to impose a boycott on the minister until or unless he tender his apology within the stipulated time.
The MHJU wondered why TN Haokip, being a representative of the people and a minister in the Information and Public Relations Department, Manipur should conduct himself towards a press organization.
