IMPHAL December 3: In view of the upcoming 10th Assembly Election, the use of military service pattern uniforms, articles and painting of military colour on vehicles by civilians has been banned under the provisions of section 140 of the Indian Penal Code within Senapati district with immediate effect and until further orders in the regard. The offenders are liable to be brought for legal proceedings, stated a release of PK Jha district magistrate, Senapati.
A separate release has stated that, in pursuance of instructions of the Election Commission to impound all licensed firearms in order to ensure maintenance of law and order, the district magistrate has directed all licensed firearm holders within Senapati district to deposit their arms to the nearest police station with immediate effect. The order also notified the concerned police officers to make fool proof arrangements for keeping the deposited fire arms in safe custody and proper receipts to be issued. Further, any individual wishing to appeal against the order is directed to submit a written justification for retaining the arms.
