Imphal, Jan 18: Two suspected militants were shot dead at Imphal East today around 2.30 pm by Manipur police personnel. Police said an encounter took place between suspected militants coming in a Maruti van bearing no MN 01x 1004 with Manipur police personnel.
In the encounter both the occupants of the vehicle were killed. The police team called in bomb experts and the bomb experts found three and half kg of RDX and other powerful bombs, batteries. Both the bodies were kept at JNIMS for identification and post mortem.
Some unknown persons blasted a hand grenade at the residence of one Akoijam Bijay of Tera Sapam leirak this early morning around one a.m.
No casualties were reported in the blast.
He is the worker of AK Mirabai, a Congress (I) Candidate of Patsoi Assembly Constituency.
Ina similar incident a bomb was also blasted at the house of Takhellambam Tompok, Pradhan of Mayang Langjing Gram Panchayat last night around 11 p.m.
Meanwhile some unknown persons hurled a hand grenade at the house of one Chingtham Manichou (50) of Kha Sanjembam Chingtham Leikai this morning around seven a.m.

One faction was led by its president Lanminthang and another faction was led by the secy. Sangbera. The gun battle which started since nine a.m. continued till 10 a.m. according to a source.

The apprehendee was identified as No.202,Batch No. 03 SS Pvt Mamak Amuba Anwar Hussain alias Mangal,24 yrs,s/o Nanatomba,r/o Yairipok Nimgthounal Changay and was handed over to Yairipok Police station.
Later, discovering the transportation of illicit liquor in Litan Market, troops of 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation and recovered 300 ltrs of illicit liquor alongwith an individual from Tata Sumo Regd No.MN 01W 0695 on 17 Jan 12.
