A mass rally cum sit-in-protest against Tipaimukh Dam construction jointly organized by Senapati district women assn. and Rural Development Assn. Senapati in Senapati Bazar today.
The protesters hold playcards which read like no mega project without peoples’ concern, nothing can compensate the lost of 78 lakh of described Tipaimukh dam, no big dam in NE, save people, save environment, we don’t want big dam, no khongnem chakha hydro-electric project etc. The organizers also submitted memorandum to the concerned minister including PM of India. The memorandum was submitted through DC, Senapati. Speaking on the occasion, the president of Senapati district women assn, Loliya said, the dam should affect the nature and livelihood of indigenous peoples. More than 25822.22 hectares of land will be submerged underwater and it will cause frequent earthquack. The people of the area took part in the mass rally cum sit-in-protest.
