The first state level watermelon festival 2012 organised by Nahakpam Foundation for development was ebgun today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen Palace compound. M. Kuber Singh joint director horticulture and soil conservation govt of Manipur, Ng. Maimu chief food technologist horticulture dept. govt of Maniur. S.V Namlekar general maanger OIC and Khamba Salam president ISTV network grace the occasion as chief guest, president and guests of honour.
Altogether 13 stalls of watermelon growers of different districts of Manipur are taking part at the festival.
It will continue till June 12. About 50 tonnes of watermelon of different varieties are being displayed. All the watermelons are sold at the rate of Rs. 20 Kg. The festival is sponsored by horticulture mission Manipur.
