Imphal, June 11 : The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) , Imphal is going through lots of changes and works are going on to improve the institute, Director of RIMS, Dr S Sekharjit today said addressing the media at his office complex.
All criteria to open a dental college has been fulfilled and from this year with intake capacity of about 50 seats he said. Some of the previous staff were not qualified hence the RIMS authority was asked to appoint qualified teachers.
The process is almost over he assured. As the buildings are old lots of money is required to repair the buildings and health ministry has suggested that new complex should be constructed without disturbing the normal process he added. New three storey green OPD complex is under construction , hostels for boys, girls will be completed soon. As the area is in a low lying area drainage system is improved.
Due to non availability of water about 11 tankers supply water on a daily basis and to solve the problem plan is afoot to construct a water treatment plant in the complex. To solve power problems most buildings have solar lighting system. He further said at casualty , syringe, bandage, medicines, glove are given and patients are supposed to get the same free of cost. At the wards also medicines, antibiotic are also given free of cost.
Most examinations and tests can be done at RIMS and the trend of asking patient parties to conduct tests at private clinics is bad. He further said medical students are given financial assistance to carry out researches and the institute may now increase capacity from 100 MBBS to 150 MBBS he said. About 147 PG students carry out research works and there are two super speciality research centres he said.
He said to make medical facilities available to the people 1074 beds are available in the hospital and over 255 senior doctors attend to the patients. Two Churches were constructed inside the complex of RIMS which has caused tension.
Other communities have also demanded that they should be allowed temples and other religious structures inside he said. There can not be any religious complex within RIMS and should be vacated he said.
