Imphal, July 13: The Assembly to urge the centre to extend ILP in Manipur. The cabinet had decided to urge the Government of India to extend provisions of The Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 to the State of Manipur. The decision was unanimously taken by the House after minutely discussing a private member resolution moved by Opposition MLAs Dr I Ibohalbi, Th Shyamkumar and Th Bishwajit.
CM Ibobi said the state Cabinet has also resolved for implementation of this regulation. L Ibomcha, RK Imo and Samuel Raishom also took part in the discussion. Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh convened a meeting of the Cabinet and the Congress Legislature Party last evening at his office to discuss the matter . Police lathicharged students of CC Higher Secondary School when the students tried to take out a rally towards state assembly for the implementation of inner line permit system in Manipur.The students in retaliatory action stoned at the police team of Porompat, Imphal east.Students under co-ordination committee of six students orgn. Also tried to storm assembly from Adimjati Hight School, Chingmeirong however police dispersed them by lathicharge.
Hundreds of school students, who were trying to take out a rally in the Imphal streets on the demand for implementation of Inner Line permit (ILP) system in the state, rained stones at police personnel blocking their way in front of CC Higher Secondary School.
However, there was no casualty in the violent scuffle engaged between the students and police but some protesting students were canned by the police to control them. Students of CC Higher Secondary School were about to take out a rally just after midday when a large number of Manipur police in around eight Gypsies appeared in front of the school gate and tried to prevent them from organizing the protest rally, leading to a violent standoff.The police had to lathi charge them as they resisted their pursuasion. Enraged by the police action, they threw stones at the police who protected themselves by lying down on the ground behind the school fence. The police later controlled them after going inside the school campus.Manipur police also prevented a large number of student leaders and volunteers of six student bodies from proceeding towards the state assembly on the demand for introduction of ILP in the state.
