IMPHAL, May 3: Anganwadi, ASHA Workers and All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) jointly organized a convention on women’s rights at Rupmahal Theatre here today.
Speaking at the occasion, Vijayalaxmi, Convenor of the All India Working Women Forum stressed that women in Manipur faces more hardships then other states’ as there is insurgency problem here. The women here are very courageous in trying to bring peace and harmony in the state. Examples of it were the nude protest in front of Kangla Gate and Irom Chanu Sharmila’s continuous fast. Women have a big responsibility in the family however socially, economically and politicaly, they are discriminated by gender division. It is shocking that Anganwadi workers and helpers are deprived of their salaries of more than 11 months till date, she continued. Dr M Nara, president AITUC Manipur State Committee; S Sorojini Devi, President AMNM; AK Thoibi, President All Manipur ASHA Union; and L Nolinibala, President Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, Manipur also spoke at the occasion.
