Imphal, Sep 8 : A two-month long tree plantation programme at Umang Lai by the Green Revolution Society, Manipur was launched from Kangla.
The programme, which will cover 421 Umang Lai of Manipur began with the traditional , rituals and plantation of trees by the volunteers of the Green Revolution Society , Manipur. The objective of the programme is also a response to the climate change and the environment.
The two-month plantation of indigenous trees at all the Umang Lai is also an endeavour to restore the essential and natural characters of having groves around the deity.
The Society has identified Umang Lai in the state, which has enough space for plantation in consultation with the local people and clubs.
It is also a campaign to create an environmental consciousness among the local population, especially among the youths to address the alarming climate change. At the same time, the programme will encourage plantation of endangered indigenous trees, particularly having socio-cultural and ritualistic values of the society in our day-to-day lives.
The Manipur Green Society has already planted over 20,000 trees in the state since its inception in the year 2008. The Society has been receiving encouragements in many forms from the people.
