IMPHAL, January 16: Irom Sharmila has been summoned to Delhi Patiala Court to make an appearance on January 30. The summon was made in connection with the 2006 Jantar Mantar sit in protest of the hunger striker.
Of recent, the chargesheet of the case has been framed and submitted to the concerned court by the Parliament Street police station.
In order to produce Sharmila, the state has to accompany her with a medical team comprising of four medical officers, two police personnel and another two from the jail authorities.
The expenses have to be borne by the state home department.
In this regard, the ADGP of prisons, P Doungel has intimated the state Home department to sanction the funds for producing Sharmila at Patiala Court.
However, the said amount is yet to be released till the filing of this report.
It cannot be said for certain if Sharmila will be taken to Patiala Court as the needed funds are not released by the Home department and the court appearance has chances to be differed if not released on time. A fitness certificate is also required for Sharmila for travel and has to be given by the state Health department.
A written statement has been sent to Patiala Court by state jail authorities regarding the chargesheet framed against Sharmila by the Parliament street police station.
It may be mentioned that the same charge has been framed against her by the state under 309 IPC and similarly by the Delhi police under the same IPC for attempting suicide and two similar charges cannot be held against one person- FIR number 60(3)2013 PRT PS under section 309 and FIR number 222/06 under section 309 IPC, Parliament Street Police Station New Delhi.
