KANGPOKPI, April 3: The 12 hrs total bandh imposed jointly by United Chief Committee and All Tribal Chief Forum Manipur in all hill districts of Manipur was drastically effective in Sadar Hills.

National Highway 2 within Sadar Hills wore a deserted look due to the bandh today.

Volunteers were seen along the highway blocking the road in Gamgiphai, Motbung, Sapormeina, Leikop, Keithelmanbi and Kangpokpi.

This morning at around 8:30 some vehicles were partially damaged at IT Road Kangpokpi by supporters of the bandh said a source.

At Leikop in the afternoon around 1:30, election officials who were to attend rehearsals at Senapati were blocked by bandh supporters and pelted stone at the vehicles which compelled them from going any further.

When the matter has been reported to Kangpokpi Police Station a team of Kangpokpi Police led by ASP Zakir along with Suresh Anthony, Officer-in-Charge of Kangpokpi Police Station rushed to the spot and disbursed the bandh supporters who were reportedly engaged in blocking the road with stone by shooting several round of tear gas and escorted the election rehearsal officials safely.

At Sapormeina some vehicles including one tanker, one truck and one diesel auto has been reportedly damaged partially but Police source said no such incident occurred.

At Gamgiphai volunteers stopped vehicles and send them back without causing any damaged while warning to respect and honour the bandh.

Mentioned may be made that the tribal chiefs has been demanding the state Govt. to sanction all lending wages and material cost for MGNREGA while alleging that till date the state Govt. has released only 17 days wages and 10 percent material cost of MGNREGA against the 100 days wages and 40 percent material cost mandated by the MGNREGS which is the central Govt.flagship program.
