IMPHAL, September 16: The State Platform of Disable People’s Organisation (SPDPO), Manipur organised a sit-in-protest along with a public meeting at Tera Bazar, Imphal West to implement Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
The protest demonstration was participated by members of Handicap Development Foundation, Disable Development Association, Manipur; Society for Disabled Person, Manipur; Thoubal District Disabled Association; Blind Welfare Association; the Ideal Blind School and the Deaf and Mute School in Takyelpat.
Spokesperson of SPDPO, Md Yunus Khan said that it is necessary to implement ILP in the State. He said that the Inner Line Permit System is necessary for safeguarding the indigenous people of Manipur.
He further lamented at the State government’s decision to detain the ILP agitators and appealed to release them from judicial custody without any conditions.
Yunus Khan expressed that the State government should share the same sentiments in the issue of implementing ILPS in the state.
He said that person with physical disabilities can sacrifice their lives for their motherland if the need arises. He said that disabled persons of Manipur will fully extend support in the issue to implement ILPS in Manipur.
Sit in protests were also held at different areas of Imphal on September 16 to discuss on the issue of ILP.
Around 300 local meira paibis and others took out a meira rally demanding implementation of the Iner Line Permit in the State at Mayang Imphal bazar this evening.
According to a release of the committee, the protests were held at Keishampat Lairenbi, Longjam Machin Keishampat, Elangbam Leikai Leirak Achoubi, Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai Leirak Machin, Khagempalli Machin, Huidrom Leikai Khagempalli, Pisum Bazar, Nongthombam Leikai Community Hall, Haobam Marak, Langthabal Lep, Awang Leikai Lainingthou Puthiba Haraopham Lampak, Langthabal Thong Amanbi Community Hall and Tera Keithel.
A rally was also demonstrated at Mayang Imphal demanding implementation of ILP in the state.
The committee has also organised awareness meeting at Moirangkampu, Mongsangei Sun Club and Nambul Mapal Phura Makhong. The chief guest at the awareness programme held at Moirangkampu was JCILPS Convener, Khuman, Moirangkampu Pradhan, Indira Devi as president and co-convener of JCILPS, Somorendro Thokchom and Moirangkampu Ward No.5 member, N. Keinahanbi as guests of honour, it said.
During the sit in protests, in connection with the ILPS implementation in Manipur, a resolution to have the ILP implemented in the state, demand the release the members of JCILPS immediately, to stop terming of ILPS movement as unlawful and to identify non-Manipuris without valid IDs, was drawn up, it said.
Our Bishnupur Correspondent adds: As part of the various agitations being held at different parts of Manipur in connection with ILP implementation, the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup of Phubala Gram Panchayat has organised a torch rally today evening, demanding implementation of ILP in the State.
The rally started from Phubala and headed towards Tiddim road up to Naranseina and headed back to the starting point. The protestors shouted out slogans such as demanding implementation of ILP in the State, to release the arrested member of JCILPS unconditionally and for the MLAs to resign for failing to implement the system in the State. The rally was escorted by Moirang OC, Surjaboro.
The torch rally started from 8 pm and ended at 9.30 pm, it said.
