IMPHAL, Aug 19: The High Court Employees’ Association, Manipur has clarified that there is no decision taken by the employees of the Guwahati High Court, Imphal Bench to close the office / court for two days due to shortage of fuel and that the Guwahatai High Court, Imphal Bench is not close down as reported in various local dailies on August 18 and August 19.

The association further clarified that the office of the Guwahati High court, Imphal Bench has been functioning as usual.

IMPHAL August 22: Many young women in the state who are widowed by unforeseen circumstances are reeling under meager earnings on daily basis. As our society is firmly based on traditional customs and norms has adversely affected to widows who are living in scrimpy earnings. The condition is rather severe to women who have been left behind by husband that succumbed to HIV/AIDS.

This was revealed during a one day awareness programme on vulnerable organized by Manipur Positive Women Network (MPWN+) held at Rising Youth Organization (RYO) ground located at Moirangkhom Bokul Makhong, Imphal west.

Tanuja Sharmi, secretary of MPWN+ during the function described that one of the main issues that these widows are facing in our society today is social gender discriminations and stigmatisms. In rural domains the conditions of the widows remain the same where the society look down upon them as ill-omened in social and religious gatherings whereas the situation of  their counterparts in urban  regions are rather relax. Imposition of social sanction to them has negative implications in their day today livelihood that survive on limited resources. Many of them fallen prey to easy earnings which are regarded as socially outrageous professions in our society. Tanuja added that such social discrimination has adversely affected in the income generation.

In order to give morale solace and support and to provide self reliance and independent Manipur Positive Women Network (MPWN+) was formed, Tanuja said.

She elaborated that the reasoned behind the one day awareness programme on vulnerable widow that was held today was to address on the current issues face by these women in their daily live and to create awareness on the benefits and welfare facilities provided by the central and state government for the widows in order to pave ways to come to the mainstream society.

Ph. Satyabhama devi, Advisor(MPWN+) presided the function while Samom Reeta Devi, councilor ward no.4 and A. Manisana Singh,local leader graced the one day awareness campaign as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

In the mean time, prior to the today’s function, the MPWN+ had observed a two minute silence as mark of respect to late Elangbam Suraj Singh, MLA. Yaiskul a/c.

IMPHAL, Aug 24: All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) has appealed to the entire people of Manipur to refrain from any provocative activity that could cause unwanted tension in the wake of sensitive situation prevailing in the state.

The president of AMCO, Prim Vaiphei, in a release said “In the wake of the yet another show of picture of self destruction in the forth-front of total indefinite bandh imposed on all the National Highways in the name of Sadar hills districthood demand committee and counter bandh on the same issue and seeing the possible grave consequence which may severly affect all the communities of the state, the AMCO appeal to all the people of Manipur to refrain from any provocative speech or writings, dentention/kidnapping, for of spreading rumour etc”.

The AMCO further appealed to all organizations including civil and armed organizations to promote and maintain peace and peaceful co-existence in their best possible way in the spirit of love and fraternity.

IMPHAL, Aug 30: The 80th Death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang a matyr and with a freedom fighter was observed with a traditional ritual ceremony by the Khoupum Area Youth organization with KP Kamson as chief guest and Gaipuidum Rongmei was presided over the function.

IMPHAL Sept 2: Troops of 33 Assam Rifles of Logtak Brigade under the Red Shield Division recovered an arms cache from Karangpat of Bishnupur district yesterday. Three 12 bore rifles and one carbine were seized from an abandoned floating hut in Karangpat. The weapons were concealed in polythene packets inside the hut, a PIB release said.

IMPHAL Sept 8:  The lone hunger striker from Saikul, Otmang Kipgen, 58, s/o (late) Seikhomang of Saikul Hill town, who has been on fast unto death demanding full-fledged Sadar Hills, has been sent to Sajiwa Jail today.

According to police sources, Otmang was arrested at around 9:30 am today from his protest site at Saikul Bazaar.

Later, he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Senapati in the afternoon at around 2:30 pm and was given judicial remand till September 22.

Talking to media persons outside the court, Otmang vows to continue his hunger strike even in the judicial custody until Sadar Hills is declared as a full-fledged district.

It may be recalled that Otmang launched his fast unto death stir on September 1.

On the other hand, three women are currently hospitalized at JNIMS and two persons are staging hunger strike at Sapermeina and around 12 hunger strikers at Kangpokpi.

IMPHAL, Sept 10: DOAK and NESU were tied in 2-2 draw while UPSA defeated UDO by a huge margin of 17-0 in today’s matches of M Ibobi Memorial Imphal East 1st Division Football League held at YOSC Ground, Khabeisoi.

In the first ground between DOAK and NESU, Ch Tomba  and L Sanjit scored one goal each for DOAK while Phalguni scored two goals for NESU.

IMPHAL, Sept 16: A number of candidates who had come to appear for the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) today organized by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur under the initiative of the education (s) were deprived of appearing in the test.

Citing incompetency on the part of BOSEM in conducting the test, several candidates numbering around 100 from about 10 centres thronged the BOSEM office at Babupara demanding alternative arrangement for them.

The centres where the candidates were left unhappy include Kongba Meitei Mayek, Tiny Tots, Modern Higher Secondary School, Lamlong Higher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary, Kingstone Higher Secondary School, Leelasing Khongnangkhong High School.

Talking to media persons a candidate, protesting at the BOSEM office, on conditions of anonymity, disclosed that despite finding their allotted roll numbers in the official advertisement through various local newspapers in the state, the students were unable to find their roll numbers in their allotted exam centres.

“Moreover, it was found that the roll numbers supposed to be for Paper-I was found to be allotted for Paper-II and vice versa creating confusion among the candidates”.

Angered with the confusion, the candidates inquired with the higher authorities of the exam centres, however they were suggested to approach the BOSEM office instead, he said.

The aggrieved candidates later thronged the BOSEM office at around 2:10 pm and gheraoed the office building demanding alternative arrangement for the candidates who were deprived to appear in the test. On receiving the report the commissioner of education (s), Sureshbabu, rushed to the protest site and met the candidates. The commissioner assured the candidates to immediately arrange a separate test as an alternative arrangement for them at Bengali high school at around 3pm.

Following the assurance the protesting candidates agreed to leave the BOSEM office and were soon herded towards Bengali high school by a team of Imphal district West Police.

However, the commissioner stop the arrangement as the question papers of the test has already been distributed to the candidates.

Meanwhile, the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Democratice Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Manipuri Student’s Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Student’s Association (KSA), demanded the government to take appropriate action against the commissioner education (s) and fellow officers for being incompetent while discharging their duties citing the imbroglio on TET conducted today.

A press meet was held in this connection at MSF office Sega Road.

Briefing media persons Depanjit Ningthoujam, secretary general AMSU, condemned the conduct of the authority concerned.

He urged the authority to declare a separate arrangement for the candidates at the earliest possible who were unable to appear the TET.

Meanwhile, the student bodies have also stated that an alternate test was held for some of the aggrieved candidates at CC higher School starting from 1:30pm to 3 pm. The student representatives have demanded that the test should be declared null and void and a joint test for all aggrieved candidates should be held at the earliest possible.

IMPHAL, Sept 19: Churachandpur became the winner of U-14 state level inter-school football tournament after defeating Bishnupur by 3-1 in the final match held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

The goals for Churachandpur team were scored by Sulan (one goal) and Mangminthang (two goals) while Keamrun scored the lone goal for Bishnupur.

Meanwhile, Manipur defeated Kerala by 3-2 in U-17 National School Games Football Tournament held at Srinagar today.

Manipur and Kerala were tied in 2-2 draw till the completion of normal time. However, Manipur scored a goal in the extra-time which led to the victory. Rojen scored all important goals for the state.

The final match will be played between Manipur and Orissa tomorrow.

IMPHAL, Sept 20: While the first and second match ended with a walked over JSYC defeated Kangpokpi Youth Union 3-0 in the third match of Sadar Hills  District League played today at Thomas ground Kangpokpi.
Thanggoulen, Thangjahao and Thangcha scored for JSYC and qualified for semi-final. The other semi finalists are Pangjang Youth Club, Muvanlai Athletics and SC.Loagos.

JSYC meet Pangjang Youth Club in the first semi final match on Thursday while Muvanlai Athletics will clash with SC.Loagos in the second match.

The champion of the tournament will directly play in the coming CC Meet tournament while the runner up will play in qualifying tournament for CC Meet or Winner’s Cup.

IMPHAL, April 6: Considering the deteriorating law and order problems in the state specially in the valley districts involving different cadres of insurgent groups operating in the state, state cabinet in its meeting held today approved creation one more police station above 20 police stations which functions in the state.
According to a highly placed official source, state cabinet meeting convened this evening chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at his official bungalow and approved for the creation of one more police station ie New Keithelmanbi PS so as to enable the state police department to cover up any incident and cases related to the law and order problems that happen in the respective Jurisdictions of the maintained police stations.
It may be mentioned that, as per the last cabinet decision the number of the police stations have increased to 20 which includes 15 Police Stations covering 15 villages, Yaingangpokpi Police Stations covering 19 villages, Borobekara Police Station at Jiribam covering 38 villages, Nongpok Sekmai Police Station covering 21 villages, Hierok PS covering 14 villages, Khongjom PS covering 13 villages, Hiyanglam PS covering 15 villages, Wangoo PS covering 12 villages, Nongmaikhong PS covering 8 villages, Phougakchao Ikhai village covering 14 villages, Keibul Lamjao PS Covering 10 villages, Khengjoi Ps covering 51 villages, Sangikot PS covering 105 villages, Willong PS Covering 10 villages, Tungjoy PS covering 11 villages, Purul PS covering 17 villages, Pahibung PS covering 22 villages, Dzii PS covering 24 villages, Sanakeithel PS in Ukhrul district covering 10 villages.
The official source also further mentioned that, state cabinet this evening also approved the creation of post of Sub Divisional Officer in Imphal West District to hold the SDPO post for Mayang Imphal Police Station and Patsoi Police Stations and the state cabinet meeting today also approved the liable financial implication for creating SPDO Mayang Imphal amounting Rs.3,91,644 per annum expenditure be made and the same expenditure will be reflected  to the revised estimates, 2011-12 be made under Imphal West District Police.
Later the state cabinet also approved for the framing of rules for the appointment of teachers under RMSA, the official source added.
It also mentioned that the cabinet today approved for the election for the Imphal Municipal councils. In this regard the official instruction will be given to the state election commission for the publication of preliminary electoral on April 11.The last date for the filing claim and objection on electoral roll has been fixed April 15 and the date of the publication of the final electoral rolls is April 25.
The completion of the process will carry out the date of notification of the election on May 4 and followed by the filing of nominations to the said Municipal councils by the candidates will be on May 9. The date of scrutiny is scheduled on May 10 and the election will be conducted on May, 25 this year.
The objectives of all the preparations is to hold the election of the Municipal councils on April 25 and the cabinet meeting also decided all necessary preparation for holding smooth and successful election to the concerned district authorities.

IMPHAL, April 8: The Directorate of Civil Defence, Government of Manipur has informed that, the admit card for the written examination for the recruitment to the post of Women Civil Defence Demonstrator shall be isuued from April 11 to April 15 this month from Room No. 150, Ministers`™ Block, New Secretariat, Imphal from 10 an till 4 pm.

The official notification issued by the staff officer of state Directorate of Civil Defence, mentioned that, those candidates, who have not yet submitted two passport size photographs attested by a gazetted officer should immediately do so, failing which admit cards shall not be issued to them and the written examination shall be held at Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) Examination hall, North AOC, Imphal from 10 am till 12 on April 16 this month, the official order added.
