Imphal, Mar 29: 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) donated 47 Solar Lanterns among villagers of Upper Khoripok, Thangja, Shangpunram, Lairampunka, Lairam Khullen, Natjang, Molan and Hongbi of Ukhrul District on 29 Mar 2012.Solar Lanterns were handed over to villagers in a simple ceremony in presence of Maj Gen U K Gurung, YSM, IGAR (S) and Brig Navneet Kumar, Commander 9 Sector.
The General officer addressed the gathering and promised all possible help in future ventures to bring in development in the area. He also reiterated the fact that Assam Rifles will continue to strive for welfare and security of the locals in the area. Under this ARMCA project 15 Assam Rifles installed 06 Solar street lights in Patsoi Village and Thuizang Baptist church in Imphal West District.
In yet another occasion, 28 Assam Rifles distributed sports items to Nambul Mapal Youth Club of Keshamthong Ahanhem leikai of Imphal West district. Maj Gen U K Gurung, YSM, IGAR(S), graced the event as Chief Guest and in his address, he reiterated the Assam Rifles pledge to give all out assistance for the development of the people of Manipur. Col Sanjeev Kumar, Commandant 28 Assam Rifles and various civil dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

New Delhi, Mar 29: The CBI Special Court, Ghaziabad(UP) has convicted 17 accused persons U/s 120-B r/w 364 & 302 of IPC in a fake encounter case and sentenced them to undergo Life Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.5000/-.each.
A case was registered by CBI on 15.11.93 on the orders of the Supreme Court of India in Criminal Writ Petition No.632/92. It was alleged that Jaswinder Singh @ Jassa, aged about 30 years, a Sewadar of Gurudwara Rakabganj, was forcibly taken away by some unknown persons/officials belonging to UP Police on 30.10.1992 at about 8.30 AM from outside the temple near Gurudwara Rakabganj, New Delhi. The matter was immediately reported to Police Post, North Avenue, New Delhi. The UP Police had registered a case on 31.10.1992 U/s 302 IPC r/w Section 3/4 of TADA(P) Act, 1987 at Police Station Bardhapur, Distt. Bijnore(UP) alleging that the police had an encounter with two unknown militants near village Kashiwala and in exchange of fire one unidentified militant was killed but another managed to escape. The police allegedly recovered one AK-57 rifle, a DBBL and other ammunition.
After thorough investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 29th March, 1996 against Dhirendra Singh Yadav, the then SI of UP Police and 18 other police officials of Bijnore(UP) police for abduction and murder of Jaswinder Singh @ Jassa in a fake encounter. Two of the accused had died during the pendency of the trial.
The Trial Court found all the 17 surviving accused guilty for the offences and convicted them.
