LUCKNOW, Mar 3 (ANI): Over 62 percent polling was recorded in the seventh and the final phase of polling on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, while a massive turnout of voters was recorded in Goa assembly polls with over 81 percent polling on Saturday. .

Over 1.82 crore voters were expected to exercise their franchise in this phase to decide the fate of 962 candidates.

Polling in the final phase was conducted for 60 assembly seats spread in 10 districts of the state including Bijnore, Moradabad, Bheem Nagar, Rampur, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri.

The fate of Samajwadi Party`s (SP) Muslim face Azam Khan, who is contesting from Rampur, would be decided in this concluding phase along with a host of other influential leaders.

A total of 18,927 polling stations had been set up by the Election Commission in this phase.

Over 60 percent polling was recorded in the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly polls on February 28.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country`s fifth largest and most populous state.

The first, second, third, fourth and fifth phases of polling occurred on February 8, 11, 15, 19, and 23 respectively. A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March.

The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections.

Meanwhile, a massive turnout of voters was recorded in Goa assembly polls with over 81 percent polling.

Voting in Goa began at 7 a.m. and continued till 5 p.m.

Over 10.25 lakh were expected to exercise their franchise in Goa, where the polling was held in a single-phase.

About 215 candidates are in the fray this time, out of which 74 candidates are independent and nine are women.

Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat cast his vote in his constituency of Margao.

Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Manohar Parrikar, who is seeking re-election from the Panaji constituency, exercised his franchise in a booth in the city.

Parrikar expressed confidence that his party would perform exceptionally well in the Goa polls.

The Election Commission had also identified 180 critical and vulnerable polling booths in the state, which were kept under special supervision of micro observers.

The assembly elections in Goa, is a keen contest between the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Maharshtrawadi Gomantak Party combine.

The counting of votes will be held on March 6.
