IMPHAL May 3 (NNN): The Naga people will observe the first death anniversary of the two students who were killed in the security force firing last year in the Manipur-Nagaland border at Mao Gate, according to the United Naga Council.

Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshou were killed in the security force firing on May 6 last year at Mao-Gate in the impasse of Muivah`™s proposed visit to his home village.

The United Naga Council called the two students as martyrs.

President of Naga Hoho, Keviletuo Kiewhuo will unveil the `martyrs` epitaph at Mao Gate, said the UNC.

Naga Hoho, Naga Student Federation (NSF), Naga Mothers`™ Association (NMA), Naga frontal organisations in Manipur, Naga tribes in Manipur, social leaders , dignitaries from all works of life will attend the anniversary, the UNC said.

The United Naga Council (UNC) instructs all the Naga villages to honour the “martyrs” by pronouncing ghena on May 6. Ghena means to abstain from all manual works.

IMPHAL, May 2: The corpse of Salam Sanjoy, 18, s/o Kamini Singh of Moirang Hanuba Leirak who allegedly died in the custody of the 12 MLI on April 29 was claimed for funeral rites by his family members today.

It may be mentioned that, Sanjoy a former cadre of the proscribed KYKL who later defected to KYKL (MDF) died at the MLI outpost located at Patsoi part 4 and the army had claimed that he died of a drug overdose, the JAC instituted in the regard has resolved that until the CBI has inquired into the incident and to punish the culprits involved in the alleged custodial death, the corpse of Salam Sanjoy will not be taken back. Reports are still not had on what grounds the understanding between the JAC and the government has been reached.

IMPHAL May 2: As regards to a press release by the Kanleipak Rural Farmers`™ Association, a `Mental Health Awareness Programme`™ was conducted by the Manipur State Mental Health Authority(MSMH) J.N Hospital, Govt. of Manipur in collaboration with Kanleipak Rural Farmers`™ Asociation at Keibung Primary School, Thoubal District on the twenty ninth of April. The pogramme was flagged off at one p.m. in the afternoon with an extensive interaction of the public with three resource persons and the Secretary of MSMH with who finally concluded the progamme at five in the afternoon.

IMPHAL May 2: The biannual election for electing office bearers for the next term of the All Manipur Working Journalist`™s Union for the 2011-2013 tenure was held yesterday.

Ahongsangbam Mobi Singh, editor of the vernacular daily Sanaleipak won the presidential status by beating his only rival Bijoy Kakchingtabam, associate editor of Poknafam by a margin of 5 votes.

Out of the 167 votes casted, A Mobi managed to get 86 votes while Bijoy got 81 votes.

Out of the 10 candidates vying for the 7 seats of the standing committee, the contestants elected having the majority in sequence are W Dhamendro of daily eveninger Kangleipakki Meira, Ksh Meghajit of Naharolgi Thoudang, GA Naocha of News X, S Surjeshwar of Sangai Express, Kh Naoba of IS Tv, B Sanjoy of Eikhoigei Panthung and Y Nikesh of Ireibak.

The new elected members will be handed over charge on July 1 as per norms of the scribe`™s body.

IMPHAL, May 2: The recent meeting of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has constituted a four member Sub-Committee (HAC) with MLA, Khangthuanang Panmei as chairman and MLA, V. Hangkhanlian, MLA, Marung Makunga and MLA, Awangbow Newmei as members to study and examined the proposed Fourth Amendment Bill 2011 in the context of the Manipur Hill Areas District Councils Act, 1971 which was referred by the state government.

In this regard an official notification was issued by the Deputy Secretary (HAC), Manipur Legislative Assembly and it is also officially mentioned that, the meeting of the HAC was attended by state PHED minister TH Haokip and state education minister DD Thaisii and meeting of the committee further decided that the Sub-Committee shall submit its report on or before June 30 next month.

IMPHAL, May 2: With the sole aim to root out the menace of drugs in Lilong area a mass rally was organised by 28 AR Lilong post alongwith local police, zila parishad faisal Maorebi, bazar secretary Liyaqat Ali and local NGO Anjuman Islah E Muaashrah lead by Moulana Abdul Aziz alias Amir on May 1.

According to a release the rally was marched off at 6 am from Lilong dam crossing various drug affected villages along NH 39 and ended at Lilong bazar at 8 am.

It further stated that a large qty of drugs comprising of 500 strips of N `“ 10, 200 bottles of recodex , 100 strips of SP tablet and 200 gms of heroin(no 4), were seized and destroyed by burning at 8:30am at Lilong bazar in the presence of 28 AR personnels, local police personnels alongwith the oc Lilong PS, local administration and the volunteers of the NGO.

The local populace extended full support to the mass rally and more then 500 persons enthusiaistically participated in the rally. The rally will go a long way in rooting out the menace of drugs from Manipur, it added.

IMPHAL, May 2: In an apparent case of suicide, a young pregnant woman who consumed insecticide succumbed to her injury today at RIMS.

The victim is identified as one Mayengbam Meena, 24, w/o M. Deepak alias Kodumba of Wabagai Kadajit.

According to sources, the victim had a fight with her husband on some financial matters around 1pm yesterday.

The victim after the fight reportedly went inside the rest room and failed to come out for about an hour. Subsequently on being suspicious the family members knock down the door of the rest room and found the victim lying unconscious with a bottle of pesticide lying beside her.

Later at around 2 pm the victim was rushed to RIMS however she succumbed at the hospital today. The victim is survived by her four year old child and husband.

Moreover the victim is said to be four months pregnant.

A case has been registered by the Kakching police station in connection with the incident. In the meantime, the husband has remained untraceable till the filling of the report.

In a similar situation, a KCP cadre was apprehended from YKPI market on the first of May who was identified as Lamkhogim Haokip alis Kiran, 24 years old, s/o Paosei from Vill-Kotien, Keithalmanbi. It further added that one Mobile Phone was recovered and handed over to Lamlai Police Station.

IMPHAL May 2: Journalism is a noble and humble profession, if one gets involved in it than one gets easily addicted said T.N. Hoakip, Minister Information and Public Relation at the inaugural function of 15 days Basic Course in News Reporting, organized by Department of Information and Public Relation, Government of Manipur, at Manipur Press club, Imphal, Today. He said that the readership rate determines literacy rate of a state, however, in Manipur the rate is very low.

The inaugural function was presided by TN Haokip, Minister IPR as the chief guest and Kengoo Zuringla, additional director ,IPR as the president respectively. For the past 15 years DIPR has been organizing such courses from time to time said Kengoo Zuringla.

The participants should take this course as an eye opener or a stepping stone to this noble profession, she added while giving her speech. Many seasoned journalists of the state, officers, media persons as well as participants of the 15 days Basic Course were present during the function. The 15 days Basic Course is commencing from today till May 19.

IMPHAL, April 30: The state youth affairs and sports minister DD Thaisi today visited Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts and inspected spots where district sports complexes are to be constructed.

The minister visited Tuibong Peace ground where a sports complex is to be constructed at the cost of about Rs 862 lakhs which is to funded by the DONER ministry under NLCPR.

The YAS minister also inspected construction of PT sports complex at Lamka.

Later, the YAS minister visited Takmu where state government is developing a regional water sports complex.

During the visit, the YAS minister advised concern officials and contractors who are executing important tasks of developing sporting infrastructures to maintain quality.

During the visit, the YAS minister was accompanied by concern officials of the state YAS department and district officials.

IMPHAL, April 30: Sadar Hills roughted VSAC in today`™s first ground match of the 13th Challenge Cup veteran football tournament being held at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Sadar Hills defeated VSAC by 9-1 in a completely one sided match.

Lanminlel opened goal account for Sadar Hills in the 4th minute. He again netted thrice in the 9th, 11th and 14th minute. The other goals for the team were scored by Ronald in the 8th minute while Letkhongam and Letsei too scored one goal each.
The not so important only goal for the VSAC was scored by Saihlam in the 32nd minute.

In the second match, VSAN had a narrow win against VSAR through a solitary goal scored by Th Sushilkumar in the 48th minute.

IMPHAL, April 30: SSA registered a big win against SYUC in the 35th mens Manipur state hockey league being held at Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium.

SSA scored at regular interval to total their score to 12 to which SYUC manage to reduce only two.

H Mani scored six goals for SSA while H Romi added three. Th Rocky and T Robin too scored one goal each.
The goal scorers for the SYUC were P Rakesh and M Dhananjoy.

In the second ground match, COSMO had a thumping win against HU with the score of 14-3.

K Johny scored four goals for COSMO while Amarjit and Thoungamba scored two goals each. Bronson, K Joy, Honda, Bebeto and Rahul scored one goal each for the winning team.

Ch Rishi, M Purnajit and P Hemjit scored for HU.
