IMPHAL May 27: Separate road mishaps have claimed the lives of four persons including a woman, while three are left with serious injuries since yesterday in the state.

The first accident occurred along the Imphal Jiribam road near Moidangpok at around 10.45 pm yesterday when a truck (MN01/6163) collided with a tree near the roadside. The driver Konjengbam Kumar Meitei, 27, s/o K Mohan of Kadompokpi Mayai Leikai was rushed to RIMS hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

In another incident the owner of a truck died instantly at the spot when his truck carrying concrete pipes skidded and fell into a ravine at Lambui along the Imphal Ukhrul road. The victim has been identified as Laishram Jugol,72, of Lamdeng Khunou. The accident which happened today at around 11 am left three others with serious injuries other than the owner who died at the spot.

In yet another accident at an interior part of Senapati district, two persons were left dead when the tourist Bolero jeep they were traveling in fell into a road culvert. The victims has been identified as K S Robert, 33,of Ukhrul, driver of the bolero and a tourist from Delhi identified as Kabita Kumar,45,w/o Krishna Kumar of Delhi.

IMPHAL, May 27: A one day block level special training programme on flagship schemes and other schemes of the UPA and SPF government was held today at Tingcha Memorial School located at Litan Sareikhong in Ukhrul district.

The training programme was among others attended by MPCC president Gaikhangam and state industries and commerce minister Y Irabot Singh.

The training programme was also attended by several leaders of the Congress party.

IMPHAL May 27: `Uchida Amuk Hanjillu` a stage production performed by the artist of People`™s Arts and Dramatic Association (PADA), Top Khongnang Makhong, will be presented in Navarang National Children Theatre Festival 2011 which will be held from June 3rd till 9th at Kerela, said a press release by the Secretary of the Association. The play was written by Warrepam Ratan Singh and was directed by Laisram Randhoni, the release added. A team comprised of 21 artist of the Association will leave for Kerela on May 31 for the participation in the festival, the release further mentioned.

Based on a confirmed input regarding move of explosives towards Saikot area, 46 Assam Rifles had established a vehicle check post in Saikot on the night of 26 May 2011. One Mahindra pick up was intercepted by the 46 AR from which a person carrying 195 Gellatin sticks, 900 detonators and 40 meters of cortex was apprehended at 11 PM. The individual was handed over to Police Station Imphal (West).

Informing this to medias in Imphal, a spokesperson of the UCM said the strike has been called to boycott the visit of Nagaland CM Neiphiue Rio, who is planning to visit Senapati district . The UCM spokesperson said the proposed visit of the Nagaland Chief Minister is a part of the agenda to disintegrate Manipur.

The UCM spokesperson also said both the state and central government should discuss the issue to avoid occurance of communal flare ups in Manipur.

IMPHAL May 27: The Pfonemai Development Association has felicitated all the students of JNV Pfokro- Mao for securing cent percent 1st division both Arts and Science stream in the recently declared class XII CBSE examination 2011, said a press release by the secretary PDA. IMPHAL, May 26: At around 6.40pm in the evening, Moirangthem Meghachandra Singh passed away yesterday at his residence in Uripok Ningthoukhongjam Leiki, after a prolonged illness.

He was born on 24 August1924. In 1958, he passed Bachelor of Laws from the University of Delhi and was elected as the Member of Parliament in the 4th Lok Sabha from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the year 1967. He was consequently elected as the member of Manipur Legislative Assembly twice, from Uripok Assembly Constituency in the year 1972 and 1974 and also served as the Cabinet Minister of Education, Medical, Forest and Corporation. He also served as the Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission from January 1981 to January 1987.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, six daughters, four grandsons and eight granddaughters.

IMPHAL May 26: A sit-in protest was held this afternoon at SEICO office located at Liwa road Chanam Pukhri Mapal in connection with the arrest of three persons by security force.

The arrested persons are Thangjam Gojen, 30, s/o Th. Gambhir of Chanam Pukhri Mapal of ward number 17, Oinam Setha 26, s/o O. Shyamjai of Chanam Pukhri Mapal of ward number 16 and Irom Somorendro 35, s/o I. Lukhoi of Chingamakha Ahongsangbam Leikai,
Speaking to media person, a protester informed that both Gojen and Setha were arrested by the Army last mid-night, whereas, I.Somorendro was arrested on May 22 midnight, however, till today, no information on their whereabouts is known.

The protester further said that Th. Gojen and I Somorendro are former militants of PLA while O. Setha was associated with PREPAK; however, since the last 10/20 years they have been leading a normal life.

Apprehensive on the development, the protester questioned whether Arm Forces Special Power Act is still in force, even though it was declared that the act has been withdrawn from 7 segments of the Imphal Municipal council by the Government.

IMPHAL May 26: The members of the Manipur Dramatic Union had convened a condolence meeting on the morning of May 25, presided by the union`™s president on the death of its former life member Bhramacharimayum Bhabananda Sharma who expired on May 21, said a press release by the General Secretary of the Union.

The release further added that B. Bhabananda Sharma had been associated with the union for a long time as stage and lighting technician. Reminiscing his association and contributions to the Union, a 2 minutes silence was also observed as a tribute to the departed soul during the meeting, the release added.

IMPHAL, May 26: At least two occupants of a Tata Magic vehicle has remained traceless after the four wheeler passenger vehicle they were traveling on plunged into the banks of Imphal River. The incident happened this afternoon around 1.30pm at Wangoi Laiphrakpam Leikai in Imphal West.

One occupant of the vehicle however managed to escape unhurt in the incident but whereabouts of the two other occupants cannot be traced as the vehicle plunged into the water of Imphal River.

Local sources said the vehicle was on a test drive after repairing at a local automobile workshop located at Wangoi. One of the occupant identified as Khomdram Biramani managed to escape from the ill fated vehicle. However, the two other occupants of the vehicle identified as Moirangthem Pashuram, 32 of Haoreibi Makha Leikai and Khaidem Yaima, 32 of Wangoi Mamang Leikai are still missing.
