IMPHAL April 22: Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) in a press statement by the outfit’s publicity secretary T Leishemba  appeals to the public to attend the Khongjom Day memorial ceremony .
It states that the Manipuris waged a fierce battle against the powerful British and the exemplary courage of our fore fathers should be respected and duplicated so as to throw off the colonial yoke. The state is suffering numerous atrocities carried out by the armed security personnel against the public in the name of counter insurgency, but the demand for independence is a democratic stance, which should be respected. The Khongojm war is a testament to the fact that Manipuris want liberty.
In order to achieve freedom, the need for unity is the need of the hour and should be stressed by all concerned, the release said.

IMPHAL April 22: Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat on the eve of Khongjom Day greets the public. A message from the Governor states that Amnipuris displayed their indomitable courage and spirit of patriotism, in fighting against the then mightiest world power ,the British and finally laid down their lives for the sake of their motherland in the Anglo Manipuri War 1891.
Khongjom Day reminds us of the historical fact that the British rule was brought upon us by the disunity and enmity among the Manipuri princes while contemplating for the throne, In celebrating the day, we also need to remind ourselves that the foreign powers tend to intervene in the sovereignty of a country whenever its people are disunited and disorganized.
Further, on the occasion of Khongjom Day, let all of us rejuvenate our pledge to preserve and protect the sovereignity of our country and its dignity, standing united and bold, the message concludes.
