IMPHAL, May 21: A BRTF truck driver was electrocuted today along the NH-53 near Kaiphundai at about 10: am in the morning.
The victim is identified as one Md. Sarimul-Islam Laskar, 25, s/o Md. Alliuddin Laskar of Sona Bharighat, Silchar Assam.
Sources said the driver was electrocuted when his truck accidentally got hooked to a High Voltage Transmission wire suspended loosely above the highway near Kaiphundai, Tamenglong district.

IMPHAL, May 21: The 46 Assam Rifles today arrested a extortionist from the National Highway 150 on May 20.
A PIB release has stated that acting on a complain from the Tipaimukh Road Area Business Development Association of demands for extortion and harassment to vehicles plying on NH-150 in Churachandpur district by USRA cadres, 46 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 27 Sector Assam Rifles on 20 May, immediately launched for investigation and ascertaining the facts.
It added that the column furthering its efforts, in a short span of time, identified and apprehended the culprit.
According to the release the individual apprehended by the AR team from Chonkhajao village has been  identified as one  Khual Khual alias Tiger of the USRA group.
The arrested individual has also accepted his acts and was handed over to the police, the PIB release mentioned.

IMPHAL, May 21: The last rite of 4 year old Thiyam Robiroy of Bishnupur, who was found dead hanged in a suspicious manner, has been performed amidst a tearful scene today.
The lifeless body of the boy was claimed by the family this afternoon from RIMS mortuary amidst controversy surrounding the dead. The family members and JAC claiming the dead as a murder has already urged the government to book the culprits involved in the incident within seven days starting from May 20 failing which they warned to take up certain forms of agitation.   
Thiyam Robiroy alias Ton, 4 s/o Th Rocky of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No.4. was found dead hanging at the compound of the Ibudhou Thangarel Haraobung under Bishnupur police on May 18 afternoon. Strangulation signs was found at the victim’s neck besides both his hands and legs being tied, sparking an extreme outcry not only from the family but from various sections.

IMPHAL, May 21: Eastern Sporting Union, Wangkhei has lifted this year’s Th Birchandra Football Academy U-16 football trophy after defeating TBSFA.
In the thrilling final match played today at Toubungkhok, the Wangkhei club rely on a spot kick delivered by N Loken in the 23 minute which found the net. The match ended in 1-0 in favour of ESU.
ESU earn the spot kick as TBSFA defender Chingkheinganba handled the ball inside penalty area.
Referee Sh Suresh had no hesitation in awarding a spot kick to ESU and Chingkheinganba was sent off.
The winning team took home cash prize of Rs 25000  with a rolling trophy while the runners-up TBSFA was richer by Rs 15,000 with a rolling trophy.
The best fair play award of the tournament was bagged by YWC Malom.
JL Fimate of TBSFA was declared man of the tournament and he was richer by Rs 2000 with a trophy while best defender’s trophy was bagged by N Rohit also of TBSFA.
Most promising player of the league was given to N Loken of ESU while Y Suraj also of ESU was given best goal keepers trophy.
Top scorer of the tournament carrying cash prize of Rs 2000 and trophy was shared between JL Fimate of TBSFA and Raisomi of YOSC.

IMPHAL, May 21: SSA Charangpat defeated MEIRAA Bashikhong in a match of the 35th mens state hockey league championship being held at Khuman Lampak.
SSA won the match with the humiliating 10-4 goals.
H Mani scored seven goals for SSA while S Bishwokumar scored two and Th Rockey scored one goal.
All the four goals for MEIRAA were scored by Th Kirankumar.

IMPHAL May 19: The result of the drawing and painting competition held in connection with the International Day of Biodiversity, which was organized by office of Biodiversity Board, Imphal, Government of Manipur has been declared.

In Group 1(class I to V), Sh. Santosh Singh from Kakching Wairi Ningthou Pareng, studying in Class V at Kakching Wairi High School got the 1st prize.

In Group 2 (class VI to XII), Sh. Asem Indrajit from Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai studying in IX at The Brilliant Public School got the first prizes.

IMPHAL, May 19: Manipur`™s hope of entering semi final of the Santosh Trophy came alive today with a 2-2 draw against West Bengal.

In their second quarter final league encounter played today at JN stadium, Guwahati, Manipur managed to drew West Bengal 2-2 and both the teams are levelled at 4 points each though Bengal has better goal differences in the point table.

Manipur now need only one point to move into the semi final and they will play Chattisgarh on May 21.

A draw against Chattisgarh will put Manipur into the semi final, Manipur manager L Dinamani informed IFP over phone this evening.

Regarding today`™s match against the mighty West Bengal, Dinamani said Manipur was trailing by two goals till the 69th minute.

However, Manipur player fought back valiently and managed to reduce the goal difference with a 70th minute goal from Nabachandra. In the 82nd minute, Herojit made the equaliser and the match was completely under our control, Dinamani said adding Manipur got some three to four good chances to score in the dying minutes of the match but failed to convert any.

In another match of the same ground played today Chattisgarh defeated TN by 3-2 goals.

Earlier on May 17, Manipur defeated Tamilnadu (2-1) in their first encounter while West Bengal defeated Chattisgarh, 4-0.

Dinamani also expressed hope that Manipur could defeat Chattisgarh as the later is not a good team and Manipur players have more confidence than their opponent team.

IMPHAL, May 19: In a bizarre incident, a father attempted to murder his own son during an altercation between the two at Kangla Songomsnag village, of Imphal east district under Lamlai police station evening around 5.30 pm on May 18.

According to a source, father Longjam Abhiram, 48 of Kangla Shangomshang attacked his own son identified as Nabakumar alias Manaoba 22, yesterday evening while the son was resting on his bed using a hammer.

During the attack the son received serious head injuries and is stated to be admitted in a critical condition at the Shija hospital. The father is however reported to be absconding till the filling of this report.

In the meantime, in connection with the incident, the local residents of Kangla Shangomshang and elders of the family held a meeting at Kangla Shangomshang village today and decided that the absconded father will be expelled from the locality forever.

A case has been registered with the Lamlai police regarding the incident.
