TAMENGLONG, April 21:The Zeliangrong Elders’ Forum of Peace Broker, ZEFPB in a press release issued by Convener, Rev. N. Palmei condemn the factional fighting between NSCN(IM) and NSCN(K) that occurred on 18 April, 2011 at N-gam village, bordering Tamenglong and Nagaland in Zeliangrong area killing one cadre of NSCN(IM) and injuring one each of the ‘IM’ and ‘K’ cadres  . The forum called it unfortunate and regretted that if there been a little bit of restraint on both sides, the situation could have been averted.
The ZEFPB reminds that Puiluan Peace agreement of July 18, 2008 is being observed by all the Naga National workers in Zeliangrong Region. The forum regrets to see the two factions violating the agreement signed by them. The ZEFPB also strongly appealed to all concerned to observe the Puiluan Peace Agreement strictly in the interest of the public and not to repeat such unwanted action in future in the Zeliangrong Region.

IMPHAL April 22: Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) in a press statement by the outfit’s publicity secretary T Leishemba  appeals to the public to attend the Khongjom Day memorial ceremony .
It states that the Manipuris waged a fierce battle against the powerful British and the exemplary courage of our fore fathers should be respected and duplicated so as to throw off the colonial yoke. The state is suffering numerous atrocities carried out by the armed security personnel against the public in the name of counter insurgency, but the demand for independence is a democratic stance, which should be respected. The Khongojm war is a testament to the fact that Manipuris want liberty.
In order to achieve freedom, the need for unity is the need of the hour and should be stressed by all concerned, the release said.

IMPHAL, April 26: A skirmish reportedly took place between security forces and suspected militants in the interior parts of Ukhrul district yesterday.
According to an official source, the incident occurred around 4 pm at a place called Skipe about 6 hours walking distance from Nambasi, Kasom Khullen Sub-Division near the Indo-Myanmar border pillar number 96.
The same source maintained that troops of 12 Assam Rifles while conducting a routine patrolling duty at the area came under heavy attacked from the suspected militants who were armed with sophisticated weapons.
The Troops also retaliated to the firing and a fierce encounter ensued which lasted for several minutes.
The sources said that in the gun fight two militants cadre suspected to be of the RPF/PLA were believed to have been killed however the detailed reports could not be acquired till the filing of this report.

IMPHAL, April 30: On the occasion of May Day which is being widely celebrated today globally, the Kangleipak Communist Party (Maoist), in a statement, sends its heartfelt greetings to the people of Manipur.

A KCP(M) statement said May Day is being celebrated in more than 80 countries throughout the world with the main objective of reserving working day for a labourer to eight hours daily.

With the coming of the May Day, the KCP(M) also wishes the farmers and labourers of Manipur for a meaningful and prosperous year.

It also said communist party and peasants/labourers are two sides of the same coin and the two worked together for the betterment of the society.

The KCP(M) statement further said revolutionaries, petty-bourgeois and rich peasants need to maintain a cordial relationship in Manipur.

The outfit also announced that KCP(M) will stop any form of collection from peasant community and reserving percentage with regard to distribution of essential commodities meant for the people.

IMPHAL May 3: As a part of its ongoing community service under the `heart to heart`™ project, the Rotary Club of Imphal sent two children suffering from congenital heart disease to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi for open heart surgeries today.
A release of the club has identified as Bleson Kom, 9, s/o Shankup Kom of Sagang village, Churachandpur and N Preeti Devi, 3, d/o N Sailendo Singh of Kakching Khullen.

The two children who were accompanied by their parents were seen off at the Imphal airport by the club`™s president, rotarian Dr M Madhumangal Singh and its public relations chairman, rotarian W Kened Kumar, it added.
In all the club has facilitated open heart surgeries to 33 children, belonging to families below poverty line, who were born with congenital heart disease or holes in their hearts, stated the release.

IMPHL, May 11: 33 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Loktak Brigade, organized a free medical camp at Nongmaikhong for benefit of poor and needy villagers of the locality. During the camp more than 465 persons (Male 168, Female 189 and Children 107) were examined. Treatment and free medicines were distributed for diarrhoea, respiratory tract infections, viral fever, skin diseases, Malaria, arthralgias, myalgias etc. Three doctors including two lady doctors attended to the people, in a press released.
The medical camp also aimed at bringing awareness regarding prevention of HIV/AIDS. The camp was especially meant for people of Nongmaikhong including fishermen who do not have easy access to medical facilities, it further added.

IMPHAL, May18: The Joint Action Committee on Khuga Dam Project in a press release has revealed that the indifferent attitude of the state with the much controversial Khuga Dam Project, has left the JAC with no choice but to put the impending matter before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Government of India.

Even after consistent trial by the JAC to resolve and expose the true picture and ground reality of the said project, the state Government is unmoved and chose to turn deaf ear when it was recently put forward to the concern leaders and Departments in New Delhi.

Subsequently, the JAC has unanimously resolved to put the matter before the National Human Rights Commission, it added.

IMPHAL, May 21: The 46 Assam Rifles today arrested a extortionist from the National Highway 150 on May 20.
A PIB release has stated that acting on a complain from the Tipaimukh Road Area Business Development Association of demands for extortion and harassment to vehicles plying on NH-150 in Churachandpur district by USRA cadres, 46 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 27 Sector Assam Rifles on 20 May, immediately launched for investigation and ascertaining the facts.
It added that the column furthering its efforts, in a short span of time, identified and apprehended the culprit.
According to the release the individual apprehended by the AR team from Chonkhajao village has been  identified as one  Khual Khual alias Tiger of the USRA group.
The arrested individual has also accepted his acts and was handed over to the police, the PIB release mentioned.

IMPHAL, May 26: A powerful bomb reportedly exploded this evening around 8.30pm inside the complex of the FCI godown located at Sangaiparou under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district.

A police source said a powerful bomb believed to be a fired from a rocket launcher exploded at the FCI godown this evening.
However, details of the blast could not be immediately confirmed and the damages if any as CRPF personnel manning the FCI godown refused entry of state police personnel inside the complex storing key public food items like rice, sugar, wheat etc.
Mediaperson who went to cover the news of the bomb blast at Sangaiparou were also denied entry inside the FCI complex by the CRPF personnel.

IMPHAL June 2: The Field exhibition Office, Directorate of Advertising and Visual publicity, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal is organizing a five days photo exhibition on the theme `Development Initiatives in North East` at community/composite hall Kakching Bazar, Thoubal district from June 7 to 11, said a press release by Field Exhibition Officer of DAVP, Imphal.

The release added that the aims of the exhibition are to disseminate information about the pace of various developmental projects undertaken by the government of India in the whole of Northeastern region including Sikkim.

From LalitMOREH, June 8: The Indigenous game of the state so called ‘Mukna’ was demonstrated yesterday at Pallel which was jointly organized by the Youth Volunteer Association, Pallel and the Meitei Council Moreh.
During the inaugural function, dignitary like MP Thangso Baite, Chief Whip government of Manipur T Mangibabu, MLA Y. Surchandra, Brigadier 21 AR Upendra, IAS/SDO Chandel Seilesh kumar, former minister Korungthang and UCM former president K. Langamba were attended.

IMPHAL June 14: 16 MARATHA Light Infantry of Loktak Brigade under Red Shield Division donated embroidery and sewing machines for an Army sponsored vocational training centre at Toronglaobi of Bishnupur District today.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Commander 73 Mountain Brigade urged the public, specially the women to join hands in ensuring peace and development in the area. The training centre was established as part of Military Civic Action project aimed at providing training and as a source of employment for the poor women folk of the area.

He also expressed his confidence in the ability of the villagers to make the project a huge success by making it self sustaining and by generating employment . This project has fulfilled a long standing aspiration of the public in this underdeveloped area, an Army press release said.

IMPHAL June 17: Socail activist L Yaima and members of Khurai Kendra Development Committee distributed rice and other edible items to the flood affected families of Kangjam Leirak and Hingol Lamhang under Khurai assembly constituency today.

The activist distributed five kilograms of rice and pulses to 75 flood affected families.

Aheibam Mema Devi, a local resident of Kangjam Leirak said that the inundated road conditions of the low lying areas has never been addressed, and by timely intervention of the social activist by making drainages have provided immense relief to the populace.

IMPHAL, June 20: The Khoupum village authority in a statement has informed that the incessant rain in Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district since the first week of June has inflicted a considerable hardship to the farmers of the area.

It said as Khoupum valley is a low lying area, having 1000 hacter of cultivable land, which is prone to flooding. Nearly 750 hecter of land is covered by Khoupum dam canal as per CADA record.

As a result of the incessant rain nearly 800 hectors of paddy field has been submerged by water channeled down from the surrounding hills it claimed.

Stating that the farmers of the area are apprehensive of a famine and outbreak of water borne diseases, it has drawn the attention of the concerned authority to look into the matter and take up preventive measures to ameliorate the farmer’s plight.
