IMPHAL, Aug 25: An electrical store at Thangal bazaar was partially destroyed by a fire broke out at around 11:30 am today.

The destroyed store is Bedi Electrical and Hardware Store owned by Guldeep Singh from Punjab.

According to the owner, the fire might have occurred from short-circuit in the godown. Some electrical items stored in the godown were destroyed by the fire.

Timely action of Manipur Fire Service could prevent the fire from further aggravation. Five fire tenders were used to put out the fire completely.

IMPHAL Sept 2: Troops of 33 Assam Rifles of Logtak Brigade under the Red Shield Division recovered an arms cache from Karangpat of Bishnupur district yesterday. Three 12 bore rifles and one carbine were seized from an abandoned floating hut in Karangpat. The weapons were concealed in polythene packets inside the hut, a PIB release said.

IMPHAL September 20: The MPP in protest against the apathy of the state government to the woes of the public will launch agitations from September 22 onwards. A press release by MPP Youth Front secretary Y Langamba has stated that the public has suffered from the imposed economic blockade. The prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed whereas there seems to be stockpiling of edible items and other PDS material. It can be clearly stated that this is a lack of responsible governance of the SPF.

To condemn the attitude of the government, MPP will organize a sit in protest at the office of the party located at Polo Ground on September 22, it said.

IMPHAL, April 5: A medical team and Troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (South) carried out a rescue operation on March 30.
According to a release of the PRO, at around 12:30 pm on March 30, a TATA Sumo moving from Imphal to Moreh lost control on NH-39 resulting in serious injuries to the passengers near Lokchao village.
it further maintained that a recovery vehicle and quick reaction team alongwith a medical team was immediately rushed to the accident spot and victims were evacuated. On request of villagers of Lokchao the vehicle has been recovered from the incident site by using the recovery vehicle. Timely action by the unit and timely medical aid proved helpful to the victims, it added.

IMPHAL April 16: The Kangleipak Communist Party (Marxist,Leninist and Maoist) in a press statement by the outfit’s publicity secretary W Malemnganba Meitei states that the one W Priyokumar, a hard core worker of Lamshang MLA Brajabidhu has occupied the community hall at Taothong which was constructed by former MP Thounaojam Chaoba. This shows complete disregard for the former MP and is a show of power by Priyokumar and Brajabidhu.
The outfit warns Priyokumar to shift within three days from today or invite dire consequences from the KCP. Further,the RDO nursing institute will remain closed as dictated and if the students fail to leave, then the outcome will be the sole responsibility of the students. IMPHAL, April 23: The troops of 17 Assam Rifles of 10 sector under HG IGAR (S) arrested a cadre of one MNRF at around 2pm on April 22 while conducting an operation in the general area of View Land Ukhrul district.
A release said the      arrested individual has been identified as PS Vareiso, 28, s/o PS Nemi of Chinsao Ukhrul. One country made pistol along with four live rounds of 9mm and a grenade were recovered from the individual. he has been handed over to the Imphal police station along with the recovered items, it said.

IMPHAL May 2: Members of Film Forum, Manipur today held a sit in protest decrying the threat of a certain underground outfit made to theatres located at Paona Bazar recently.

President of the forum, L Surjakanta stated that three theatres remained closed for the last nine days, acknowledging a dictate by a UG group. He requested the concerned outfit to lift the ban and to respond within 5 days from today, otherwise the halls will commence screening in public interest.

IMPHAL, May 9: The troops of Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) carried out a successful rescue operation on May 8.An official release stated that a Tata magic with regd. No MN-1K 4527 heading towards Sugnu Town from Kakching, lost control and turned turtle injuring passengers near Longmaidong, Thoubal. On receiving the news, the troops along with a medical team of 27 Assam Rifles rushed to the spot and rescued twenty passengers, evacuated injured passengers to the Civil Hospital, Kakching after providing first aid, it further added.

IMPHAL, May 13: Reiterating its demands to provide vending space and at the same time demanding the release of their fellow street vendors arrested by the police since the start of their agitation, a group of street vendors gathered today in front of the MPP office and blocked vehicular movement along the road for several minutes.The protestors were later dispersed by the city police without any further unwanted incidents.I Debrani, a member of the Khwairamband Keithel Street Vendor Demand committee, speaking on the sideline of the protest to the media persons decried the act of putting her fellow vendors in jail and further urged the government to release them, taking into consideration their family.
