IMPHAL, July 25: More than a year after the High Security Registration Plate for vehicles was launched in the state on April 12, 2012, a fixing station of the HSRP was launched today at the Manipur State Road Transport Corporation.
Director of Transport, M Luikham today launched the fixing station and said that such stations have been simultaneously launched in all districts of the state.
Speaking to media persons, M Luikham said that state Chief Secretary DS Poonia had launched the HSRP on April 12, 2012 under a directive of the Supreme Court and the Union Transport & Highways to compulsory affix all vehicles with HSRP within two years of its launched.
The directive aims to bring about uniformity in the registration plates of all vehicles and enable the completion of national data of motor vehicle in India, he continued.
With the availability of vehicle data online, the law enforcing agencies will be able to access the details like vehicle registration numbers, laser numbers, engine and chassis number and further control issue of duplicate registration certificates, the Director said.
It will also help the police track down stolen vehicles in the state, he said.
The Director expressed that since the HRSP will bring about uniformity in all states of the country, the Union Minister of Road and Transport & Highway has amended the Rule 50 of Central Vehicle Rule, 1989 to standardize the pattern of displaying registration mark uniformly throughout the country.
HSRP will help in creating computerized data of old and new registered vehicle at places where the record is not maintained at present, he said.
People tend to put up registration numbers painted according to their own fancy in various sizes, fonts, which has encourage fake registration numbers and thefts, etc, he pointed out.
It may be motioned that the Supreme Court had directive the states and union territories to launch the HSRP as it is tamper proof and non-replaceable.
The function was also attended by W Rajen Singh, Director, DIPR and M Mani Singh, DTO Imphal West.
