Introduction:
The history of sport can be traced back to the existence of human civilization itself. It is a key part of cultural identity, and a mechanism for the protection and promotion cultural diversity. Thus, retaining knowledge of our traditional sporting practices is vital in term of sport as an expression of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Worldwide, there is a staggering cultural richness of indigenous, traditional, historical, and regional folk games and sports from different nations and ethnic minorities, many of which are fascinating not only for their differences, but also for the similarities of shared common features.

Bandh has no future, why Manipuris should stop bandh culture

Bandh comes from Hindi word meaning “closed”. It is a means to achieve certain objectives through protest by the community or certain groups that forces the general public to stay at home and not go for work.

Why Meiteis should not be scheduled as tribe

(contd from previous issue)
Meritocracy will breed elitism, class antagonism. The move by the demand committee is a tight slap to the idea of social justice considering the current political economy of the State. When there is no equity how can you talk of equality? The Demand Committee asserts that Meiteis will ‘control’ India if scheduled as Tribe.

Tryst with Alzheimer’s disease

It is human nature to feel and think about life, not about death, as if we are to last forever. Even though we know that the biological clock is ticking inside us relentlessly making us to age with each passing day, we don’t give a damn whether we are getting closer to our natural death. Same is the case is with diseases also.

Why Meiteis should not be scheduled as tribe

(contd from previous issue)
I am left with no other understanding than saying that this section of Meiteis ‘for the time being’ sees the ‘creamy layer’ concept in affirmative action policies of India as a road block for their ‘progress’ as I am convinced that their ‘promises’ are mere rhetoric that cannot be operationalised within the larger political economy and the geo-politics of the state.

Koro & Krishna – The young & old faces of Manipur

Koro, the Master Chef in the making –
‘Vanakkam, enna saapiduringa, Sir?’ When we heard these Tamil words while having food at our hotel in Imphal, the food stuck in our throat, because the person who talked in Tamil tongue was a Manipuri! It was like a bombshell exploding unexpectedly near us! After wishing us Vanakkam (Namaste) he enquired ‘enna saapiduringa’ (What will you have), Sir?’

The unholy alliance

At midnight when we are immersed in a deep slumber, almost half dead, vibrant activities are going on in big godowns at many places of Imphal and other valley areas. While we are busy dreaming the night away, there are many nocturnal players out there carrying out their evil designs – adulterating food preferably grocery items with all kinds of items starting from stones, dried cattle shit, wood dust from saw mills, chalks, sand and many “God knows what” items, mixing inferior quality items with superior ones, stuffing hormones and spraying hazardous chemicals on fruits and vegetables such as mangoes, grapes and apples so that they gain weight, appear deceptively ripe and luscious thereby coating them with toxins which refuse to budge even after repeated thorough washes.

Use of water cannon and arrest of students are illegal

(Contd from previous issue)
Then, there is a question – “Why do school students come out to protest?” The reply to this is also given in the Court judgment. The school students, who are not only juveniles and citizens but also are the people of this democratic country, according to the judgment, have “a right to raise their voice… to express their resentment over the actions of the government on any subject of social or national importance.” The argument is – “Was the resentment nationally important?” The reply to this argument is : even if the resentment expressed by the school students is not of national importance, the resentment is deeply embedded with social importance.

Use of water cannon and arrest of students are illegal

Introduction: Why do I write this article?
What have the school students done that they had to face forceful water from police’s water cannon to disperse them? What have the school students done that they had to face the violent action of Manipur Police in a full day light? What have the school students done that they had to be treated so inhumanely by none other than the Home Minister of Manipur under whose headship the police department functions?

How Buddhism differs from other religions – I

(A) What is a Religion?
The underlying principle of a religion is to regard Nature’s mysterious power and phenomena as the absolute Master. As a result, fear, holiness, reliance, attachment and respect arise. Then come worship, praying, sermons and other rites. People establish precepts and commandments as the standard of their daily lives, in order to live at ease and to perfect personalities. Thus a variety of religions are created.

We have here three snippet views on how professional, expert-legal protagonists along with constitutional institutions and provisions have worked in opposition to the potentiality of radical struggles of our times. We may also see that their project is designed to weaken all transformative potentialities of the struggles in our society and replace them with an uncritical submission to the technical designs of the state for protection and recognition. The coming politics of our times is to save all emergent potentialities of various kinds of movements in this land from getting buried under the weight of these anti-political protagonists and their legalization projects.
