IMPHAL Feb 24: FECTAM in its protest of reviewing the cabinet decision of the state government of revised UGC pay scale alleged that the commissioner of Higher Education, K Moses Challi is acting against the interest of the teaching community.
A press release states that in spite of the present unrest in the educational atmosphere of the state and following the teachers demand, the said commissioner still disregards the interest of the teachers, which is viewed seriously and condemned, the statement said. Further, FECTAM urged all concerned that K Moses should be transferred from his present office in the greater interest of the public and this is the new demand of the organization, the release said.

IMPHAL, Feb 24: A one-day sensitization workshop on child rights was organized today by Child Line Imphal at the conference hall of Anthropology Department, Manipur University, Canchipur.
The resource persons of the workshop were Prof MC Arun of Anthropology Department, Manipur University, and A Mobi, editor of Sanaleibak Daily.
Prof Arun dwelled on the Juvenile Justice Act and its significance in the society. He said the implementation of Juvenile Justice Act is very much necessary for a welfare society and so the concerned authority should take up the needful action for proper implementation of the act.
He also stated that a juvenile in conflict with law should be made to reform himself rather than penalizing him in a deterrent manner. 
The editor of Sanaleibak Daily, A Mobi maintained that media play an important role in shaping the society as the fourth estate of democracy. The myriad issues of the society have been the subjects of media reports and features. The issue of child rights also needs to be focused furthermore by media-persons, he noted.

IMPHAL, Feb 24: One suspected KCP (MC) was today arrested with bullet injury in his left belly after an encounter with Imphal East Police commandos this evening at around 2:40 pm at Kundrakpam under Heingang police station.
The injured suspected cadre is identified as one Nongthongbam Premadanda Singh, 35, s/o N. Khelendro of Nongthongbam Leikai Sambrei.
According to a police source, acting on specific information of some militants outfits being present in the general area of Khundrakpam this evening, a team of Imphal east police commandos rushed in to the area and found two persons moving in a suspicious way in a two wheeler. The source further maintained that the youth instead of co-operating with the police, fired upon them when asked to stop for verification.
However on police retaliation one identified as N. Premananda was hit in his belly however the other managed to escape from the scene.
In the meantime the injure victim recently hospitalize to JNIMS porompat is under treatment added.
And further may mentioned that as part to search the escaped persons the CDOs conducted an search operation in the area however there is no report of arrest till the filing of this news.
In another incident a combined team of Thoubal District Police Commandos and 42 AR have arrested a cadre of the proscribe KCP MC while conducting frisking and checking duty in the general area of Heikakpokpi yesterday around 6:30 p.m.
A statement of the Senior SP Thoubal District Police, Clay Khongsai said that the individual is identified as one Thongam Sohadev alias Sodin Singh, 32, s/o Th. Ibomcha Singh of Umathel Awang Leikai, at present staying at Papan Village of Chandel district.
It said, on questioning the individual disclosed that he is an active member of the KCP MC. One 9mm pistol with one magazine and two live ammunitions were recovered from the possession of the individual.

IMPHAL Feb 24: A consumer`™s awareness program jointly organized by All Manipur Working Journalist Union, state electricity department and the Joint Electricity Regulatory Committee (JERC) of Manipur and Mizoram was held at the state guest house today.
The inaugural function was attended by JERC chairperson C Mingthajoula and state member H Bihari, economics professor of Manipur University Ch Priyoranjan and L Sadananda of the Senior Citizen for Society as the presidium members.
Speaking as a resource person, news editor of IS Tv, Yumnam Rupachandra dwelled on the need of mutual understanding from both the public and the state government to bring about a better power supply in the state. He emphasized that the public blames the government and vice versa , but we all need to work out the snags and bring about a reform ,he stated.
Chairperson of JEPC ,Mizoram C Minthanjoula stated that new reforms needs to be implemented in the power sector and voiced positively on commercialization of the said sector to improve the current status.
Chief Engineer of the state electricity department N Sarat stated that a huge amount of power is lost at transmission and due to defunct machinery. He stressed that a majority of the state population do not have the habit of clearing their due electric bills, which ultimately becomes a liability and therefore unwanted measures have to be taken up by the government, he said. He further stated that the public needs to clear their dues for uninterrupted power supply in the state.

IMPHAL, Feb 24: The signing of `Treaty of Yandaboo` on February 24, 1826 was commemorated today by Manipur People`™s Party (MPP) in a function held at its head-office near Polo Ground, Imphal.
The commemoration function was attended by Dr. L. Chandramani Singh, former deputy Chief Minister, and Dr. Nimaichand Luwang, president of Manipur People`™s Party, as the chief guest and president respectively.

IMPHAL, Feb 23: The person who was arrested by security forces from Sawombung gate is a deserter and he is not related to the UNLF, stated senior publicity officer of the proscribed UNLF Ksh Yoiheiba in a press statement.
The statement further stated that the arrested person Khomdram Tamnganba, alias Sushil, son of Itomcha of Tensubam Leirak Brahmapur Bheigyabati Leikai is a deserter who failed to report to the unit after taking leave on medical ground. He has also reported joined a faction of KCP very recently.
The other arrested person Phanjoubam Winnerjit, son of Shyam of Bheigyabati Leikai is also not related to the outfit, the statement added.

IMPHAL, Feb 23: A Preliminary Quiz Competition on the topic `Know Your India` under AR Military Civic Action project was organized at Chandel by 42 Assam Rifles of   26 Sector under IGAR (South) on 21 February 2011. 24 students from various schools of Chandel dist participated in the Quiz Competition. Besides the participants, village chiefs, school teachers and other important dignitaries of Chandel town also witnessed an interesting Quiz competition. Prizes were distributed among the teams to all participants. The final Quiz Competition will be held on 26 Feb 2011.  The people were also provided with light refreshments and CSD facilities. The school authorities, Village Council Members and GBs of adjoining villages thanked Assam Rifles for conducting the Quiz Competition.

IMPHAL, Feb 23: Continuing with its philantrophic works and reaching out to general public, 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) assisted the villagers in leveling and preparing a football ground at Thayong Vill, Andro.
The ground was dedicated to the people during the opening ceremony of the third Khurpui Festival. The effort was a befitting example of civil-military co-operation and the football field was prepared in a record time of seven days. 28 Assam Rifles provided a jcb and manpower for the same. The unit also assisted the locals with material support in smooth conduct of the festival.
The villagers were elated and thanked the unit for fullfilling their long over due aspirations. such efforts will go a long way in building a lasting relationship and ushering era of lasting peace.

IMPHAL Feb 22: A sit-in-protest demonstration was observed today by the college teachers demanding 6th revised UGC pay scale.
A press release by FECTAM stated that the state government should acknowledge the stand of the teachers and give their rightful demands. The release further states that other employees have not only got the revised pay but DA along with arrears have been paid out, only  the teachers have been sidelined , the release states.This is a discrimination to the teaching community of the state and is tantamount to ignoring bringing about a quality system of education in the state.
The teachers demanding the rightful have resorted to stronger means of agitation and in both the hill and valley areas have carried out the sit in protest without disturbing the educational atmosphere. However, the teachers are geared for the cease work strike scheduled to begin on February 28, the release added.

Shivadas Sharma stated that the Traffic Regulation for the passenger`™s vehicles (deisel autos/tatamagics and tata wingers) from Mayang Imphal side are diverted from Keishampat and this very vehicles shall move through the Leimajam Leirak, Keishampat towards Meino leirak Sagolband and then they shall move towards the Nagamapal/ Maharani Bridge by taking a round turn under the BT fly over bridge via Babuthong.
Statement further said that this Traffic Regulation effect from today until further order by the concern and the traffic regulation will be effected between the 8 am to 7pm added.
