Source: Emailed by Sanabam Bhagat

Dear Sir,

There are frequent traffic jams in most important traffic points, such as the ones near Head Post Office, Nityaibai Chuthek, West Kangla Gate, Keisampat Jn., PWD Head Office, Khoyathong, North AOC and Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak. But the severest of all is happening at Nityaibai Chuthek and West Kangla gate as all the highways of Manipur passes through these traffic points.

Adding to the already congested traffic is the unserviceable roads at western side of Naga Nullahs due to heavy clearance and construction works currently in progress.

Besides, the big outdated traffic islands at Nityaibai Chuthek and Western Gate of Kangla is the culprit for the most severe traffic congestion at Imphal which also baffled the traffic lights system installed there. As a result no traffic lights signal installed there could be used to control the traffic at such places. The designer of the system might not have thought of encountering such a traffic system created by Manipur. Nowhere; at least in major Indian cities do we find such traffic islands at traffic congestion junctions, the idea which everybody knows except the govt.

Isn’t it time to bulldoze the two big traffic islands and restore smooth traffic or wait, torture and waste extra oil for more time till people are accustomed to it and start to live with it without any complaint as usual.

An excellent and the only example of easing traffic and successful use of traffic lights is there at near post office, because there is no traffic islands there. The one at Keisampat could also work well if the Naga Nullah roads are wide enough which is currently under construction. Of course traffic lights are yet to be installed there.

Let good sense prevail with the govt.and help cure traffic congestion at the heart of the Imphal city which normally shouldn’t have happened if those two traffic islands which serves more for a cosmetic than purposeful ones are removed for the welfare of the commuters which include ministers as well.

With Regards,
Sanabam Bhagat, Email: sanabam_meitei@yahoo.com

IMPHAL, Feb 21: The chairman of the proscribed UNLF, RK Meghen has stated that the armed separatist movement prevalent in Manipur has evolved out of the oppression of innocent people carried out by the Indian forces.
RK Meghen stated this to media-persons today while he was produced before the special NIA Court at Guwahati along with other top leaders of UNLF including M. Joy, S. Rakesh, M. Ibohal, M. Landhoni and Maniton.
He further maintained that the Government of India does not have any policy for having negotiations with unarmed organizations, but it has been negotiating with various armed organizations.
The UNLF wants solution through democratic means and this has been supported by United Nations. The people have to play vital roles in bringing solution through democratic means, Meghen enjoined.
He also appealed to the people of Manipur to stand united and form a unified force regardless of caste or community to crush all external influences.
The leaders of UNLF were produced before the special NIA court today after the NIA has submitted the charge-sheet against 19 leaders of the outfit.
Only six of them were produced today while the rest of 13 members of the UNLF will be produced before the NIA court on March 7.
On the other hand, the bail application for M. Landhoni will be heard on February 28.
Meanwhile, a large number of people from Manipur, Assam and Mizoram numbering about 200 held a demonstration today near the complex of NIA court at Guwahati. They shouted slogans such as `We want plebiscite`, `UNLF not waging war against India`, `Chairman Sanayaima and other members of UNLF are not criminals`, `They are defenders of the right to self-determination of Manipuri people`, `NIA should transfer Sanayaima and other cases to Government of Manipur`, `We want permanent peace in Manipur` etc.
A release of People for Self-determination of Manipur also said that the UNLF is not a terrorist organization. It is just fighting for the right to self-determination of the people of Manipur which has been deprived by the Indian government by forcing the then Maharaja of Manipur Budhachandra to sign the merger agreement in 1949.
The organization also demanded plebiscite through which the lost freedom of Manipur can be restored.

Sir,
With due respect, I wish to state the following lines for your kind consideration in publishing this letter. That the services of the United Bank of India(UBI) in Ukhrul is in a sorry state. I along with hundreds of othercustomers face a lot of difficulties in basic services in transaction. Even to get our accounts updated in the Pass book is not available. This problem has been persisting for the past so many months.

I have been to Imphal at UBI and there-in-order to get updating the accounts in the passbook, the staff manning the Counter demanded certain amount for the service. That has been quite a disappointment. The hassle of incurring expenditure to travel to Imphal just to get the updating done and then the extra monetary demand for the basic service provided. I on behalf of other customers would like to know why this failure of service amenities in Ukhrul and why it cannot be rectified. It ultimately amounts to negligence. It is high time that technology, infrastructure and humanresource in our District/State needs immediate up gradation.

Your concern for quality Service will be highly appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
L.John Tangkhul,
Tangrei, Ukhrul Dist. Manipur.

About Divine Connection

Divine Connection is a band from Kohima, Nagaland who play varied blend of rock music fused with jazz and funk. They are primarily involved with the Christian music scene and it will be interesting to see them incorporate other religions into their performance. They are a very tight and professional band. The front man of the band says that although he is unable to provide a luxurious lifestyle to his family by being a working musician, the fact that his four year old son recognizes his voice when he hears him on the radio makes it all worth it.
