Customs destroys confiscated narcotics

IMPHAL, November 6: The Drug Disposal Committee of Imphal Customs Division under the instruction of the Office of the Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) NER, Shillong today burnt confiscated narcotics worth

Additional commissioner, Guwahati Customs Division consigning the seized narcotics to flame.

The narcotics were seized on different counts since 2012 from different places of the State. The NDPC court had also ordered disposal of the same, informed a source.

The seized narcotics included 3,771.8 kg of Ganja and 2500 strips and 4000 loose tables of illegal drugs.

The disposal of the narcotics was led by additional commissioner, Guwahati Customs Division JP Singh with asst commissioner Imphal Customs Division Gaikhonlung Panmei; superintendent anti-smuggling (AS), Imphal Customs Division Gyan Singh; superindentent STS (Statistics), Imphal Customs Division.

IMPHAL, October 22: Even though vehicular movement has resumed along the Imphal-Moreh stretch of the National Highway 2 which was badly affected by the recent incessant rains and landslides, there are still certain parts of the highway which the State PWD has failed to make safe for the motorists.

IFP had conducted an inspection of the highway yesterday in this regard.

It was learnt during the tour that the PWD has divided up the damaged portion of the Imphal-Moreh road stretch into three and entrusted a separate contractor each to repair the three portions.

Of the three, the portion which was least damaged is the Lokchao to Moreh stretch. There the contractor has only used a JCB to clear the roadside drain which has been earthed up, draining away the falling water streams from the hill tops.

However, as there was no planning to drain the water streams down the gorge, there were certain parts where the streams had overflowed from the drain.

The worst portion of the road starts about 2 km before reaching Tengnoupal from Imphal.

Two road stretches about 100 feet long each have sunk along the portion requiring cutting of the hill slopes to enable vehicular movement.

On reaching the stretch around 3:30pm yesterday, several vehicles coming from both Imphal and moreh sides were seen stranded as the earth from the hill slopes cut by the Proclain machine was being piled up on the road.

The earth and boulders piled up on the road from the cutting of the hill was further cast off into the gorges using a JCB and a Bulldozer.

Later, after the road was cleared, vehicles were made to pass the stretch from one side at a time.

However, it was also witnessed that due to the minimum number of manpower and machinery being used, there was not much development in the work.

It may be mentioned that the bad condition of the road has affected shopping for ningol chakkouba as many people flock to the border town for their shopping.

At the same time, vehicles coming from Moreh towards Imphal and vice versa are allowed passage only on specific periods due to security reasons which has only appended the hardship of the commuters.

IMPHAL, Aug 28: The Kabui Mother Association has expressed gratitude to the State government for agreeing to erect a life size statue of Heipei Rani Gaidinliu along will construction of Rani Complex in Imphal area.

A released from the general secretary of KAMA Ranjita Golmei further mentioned that in this regard representative of KAMA had met Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and his council of ministers including Gaikhangam, Govindas Konthoujam and Okendro on August 27 at the Chief Minister`™s Secretariat around 11:30 am.

During the meeting, the KAMA proposed construction of the Rani Gaidinliu complex and statue citing that she was born in Manipur and the people need to do something for her, it said.

KAMA had also sought the government to allot land for construction of the complex along the national highways, it said.

In his response, the Chief Minister of the State assured to make the State government`™s decision during the unveiling of Haipou Jadonang statue on August 29, it said.

It said KAMA believes, the State government will act on its assurance considering the Zeliangrong community.

It has further condemned a step of the NDA government under Narendra Modi for taking an initiative to construct a Rani Gaidinliu statue in Nagaland rather than at her birthplace Manipur.

It is like looking down upon the Zeliangrong community, the KAMA statement said.

Thokchom Kumar (50), a civilian, was sitting in a hotel when the blast occurred in the Chingarel area. His condition is stated to be stable.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that rebels could have triggered the improvised explosive device blast from a distance,” Inspector General of Police Clay Khongsai told IANS.

No one has been arrested so far, but a manhunt is on to nab the rebels, he added.

ReCycle:ReCycle came into existence in November 2006 with a common urge to bring the musical landscapes of 90’s grunge, Alternative and funk flavor to the Imphal music scene.

Club Muzik:What do you want to see in a fan, say Recycle fan?

ReCycle:We would love to see in our fan who could connect to the band musically, love for who we are & stay loyal to the journeys ahead.

Club Muzik:Your music is a contrary to the current aggressive nature of metal bands in the country. But rightfully we feel that Recycle has made a place of it’s own apart from the various trending bands. Share us how a band can achieve such an honor?

ReCycle:ReCycle is an alternative rock band with a touch of funk element to our sound. We do have a core belief in our band. We stay true to our music with dedication,devotion and action which help us in the long run.

Club Muzik:Every musician has the slightest difference or perfect uniqueness in it’s music no matter how similar they sound like. What is it in Recycle the rest don’t create?

ReCycle:Every band has its own style of music,taste & approach. We do have our kind of music which we can call our own but we can’t comment or compare with the rest and the interpretation is left to the listeners.

Club Muzik:How do you differentiate a rock artist like yourself from a Hindustani artist in the local scene?

ReCycle:Hindustani artist are like they are into mainstream culture where as we are part of the sub-culture which is not too mainstream.

Club Muzik:Apart from Recycle what all are your favorites in music?

ReCycle:We are all inspired by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix,RHCP,Incubus,Coldplayjust to name a few & we do love the local acts like The Imphal Talkies,The Dirty Strikes,The Koi.

Club Muzik:In a music making industry the production quality matters a lot to come up with a good and well-crafted sound. Tell us what you would suggest to other musicians in Manipur to come up with quality production?

ReCycle:We would love to suggest a good recording studio along with a sound engineer who can communicate, co-operate and work with the kind of approach your band would like to have and expect him to help technically in the recording process in order to get the right source to maintain quality production. The recording process is what matter and should be the prime focus in order to get the right kind of sound so the source from the guitar amps, microphone positioning & stuffs needs to be check. So, once the recording process is done with proper care you can do the mixing & mastering anywhere depending upon your budget.

Club Muzik:How do you write your music and lyrics?

ReCycle:All our music and lyrics comes spontaneously. Sometimes a bass line would come up or a guitar phrase while we are jamming or during rehearsal before a gig and the idea turns into a song. It all comes naturally but it’s not actually plan and sometimes the lyric comes all of a sudden so we just write it down.

Club Muzik:How do you maintain your music instruments to keep it in good shape at home or for a liveshow?

ReCycle:Just keep in hard case in case we are going for live show. We do have sentimental value to our instruments so we just take good care and maintain to keep in good way.

Club Muzik:What are your expectations while playing at a live gig?

ReCycle:We do expect good quality production like sound, lights and stage from the organizer. We always try to connect new fans while playing at a live gig and we are grateful that most of the gigs we played are paid so far.

Club Muzik:Share us the people behind each members of Recycle who made you all into music, like who allsupported or trained you in the beginning?

ReCycle:All of us are self-taught and we didn’t had formal training from early on. We are inspired from our elders from early age to get into music and we thank our elders, families and friends for all their continued support and guidance.

Club Muzik:To you what is perfect timing for a band?

ReCycle: We do exist like a family and we are all aware of the highs and the lows of the band so far. We always enjoy the moment of the journey through this band and the perfect timing would be like when we all function like a collective soul or together as one unit.
