Tiluck Keisam – Seven-year-old skating prodigy from Manipur aims for Guinness record

New Delhi, May 28 (ANI): Seven-year-old limbo skating prodigy Tiluck Keisam is aiming for an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

He registered his name in the Limca Book of Records in January by performing a 50-metre limbo skate under a horizontal bar set at the height of 7.5 to 9 inches from ground level.

“I love skating and I have been skating since 2013. Today, I’m very happy that I completed more than 100 meters. I want to become a famous skater. I want to play at the international level and want to

bring a gold medal for my country,” said Keisam.

He has been training under the guidance of Coach Rohtash Dinodia in the capital.

“Today, the event that Tiluck performed was a trial for the Asian events and the Guinness Book of World Records. He performed a 100-metre-long skating and back limbo. And for the first time, he did U-turn skating of about 80 metres, which is a big achievement for him. We did three events today, and next time, we will try to make him win at the Asian level in the same events,” said Dinodia

Tiluck is a Class two student of Bluebells School International in Delhi.

He has been skating since 2013 and has participated in various competitions and won a total of 36 medals and many certificates.

Tiluck was adjudged as the overall best Limbo skater in Delhi for the year 2014-15.

Apart from skating, he loves painting and drawing.

“We feel very proud of him, because now, we have come to know that he has got many talents. He has won numerous medals not only in skating, but also in drawing and painting competitions, and at the National Science Olympiad also,” said Ricky Keisam, Tiluck’s father.

“I have seen Tiluck for several years. Whether in summer or winter he always makes it a point to practice. It’s a wonderful achievement. He is very talented and we are very happy for him,” said D Sarkar,

Director of Sports, DDA.

Recently, he performed Limbo Skating at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in Delhi where he showed forward limbo skating over a distance of 113 meters under a bar set at a height of nine inches.

Tiluck is now preparing to get his name in the Asia Book of Records.

Tiluck’s success is a source of inspiration for other children.

IMPHAL, May 23: The 24 hour state-wide bandh endorsed by the AMUCO, UCM and various other valley based organisations against the lethargic attitude of the state government in tackling the Dzuko valley land encroachment issue hit normal life in the State today.

Although the Committee for Koziirii-Dzuko Land Boundary Resolution had lifted its bandh following an assurance from the Chief Minister for proper demarcation of the State`™s territory after the ADC election and to call upon the central government to intervene and monitor the interstate issue at the earliest, valley based organisations which had endorsed the committee`™s call for bandh proceeded with it.

During the bandh, the State capital wore a deserted look and all shops remained closed for the day.

Vehicles including both private and passengers services remained off the roads.

Government offices recorded low attendance; even banks and educational institutes remained closed for a day.

Bandh volunteers in Chinga Makha, Singjamei burned tyres and wood on the road blocking traffic.

Children were seen playing on most roads in the State capital during the bandh.

It may be mentioned that the land encroachment issue has been going on for many years.

It is also learnt that the road construction initiated by Integrated Rural Tourism and Road Development Authority under the directive of Nagaland government using heavy machinery has penetrated more than 10 kms into the territory of Manipur.

The 24 hour state-wide bandh also morally supported by the All Manipur Bar Association considering that the demonstration from public is necessary due to the government`™s lack of commitment to the issue of land encroachment by the Southern Angami Naga People`™s Organisation.

TR’s 1 Year in Office – A Tumultuous Political Journey, Kaziranga to Kohima

By Oken Jeet Sandham   When TR Zeliang led NPF legislators along with their allies were singing a “Song” paying “tribute to mothers” at the famous Kaziranga’s IORA The Retreat,

p1feb6-400x330By Oken Jeet Sandham

When TR Zeliang led NPF legislators along with their allies were singing a “Song” paying “tribute to mothers” at the famous Kaziranga’s IORA The Retreat, it reverberated across the state of Nagaland. One thinks – “How would it be nice if they could sing same at Kohima or Dimapur or any place in Nagaland in presence of mothers?”

Why did he go to Kaziranga to become a leader of NPF legislature party and why could he not do the same at the home turf? What was wrong and who was the threat to him are some of the basic questions?

It was only after Noke Wangnao, then Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), expressed his inner mind to the media with regard to the post of Chief Minister which would soon be vacated by Neiphiu Rio, Team Zeliang rushed to Kaziranga. He (Wangnao) even claimed that Rio asked him to become his successor as no one from the ENPO area had occupied the highest post in the state since statehood.

Of course, there were at least four contenders for the post of Chief Minister. They were TR Zeliang, Noke Wangnao, G Kaito Aye and Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu. Wangnao and Kaito did not, however, join the Kaziranga mission but Zeliang retained them when he formally took over the reins of the state from Rio. However, he was always suspicious of the duo and his suspicion was vindicated at last.

That was how the present Chief Minister TR Zeliang started his most tumultuous political journey from Kaziranga and he would, perhaps, never forget “Kaziranga” as his roadmap of becoming Chief Minister of Nagaland was drawn up from there.

Interestingly, before settling down the dust of political storms soon after becoming the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Zeliang started facing many oppositions not from the main opposition Congress party but from within his party. There were moves against his leadership, though not openly. Even at times, there were head counts, of course again unofficially, to throw a challenge against his leadership within the NPF legislature party. Yet, the numbers on his side were more and that made him and his colleagues loyal to him confident that they could carry on.

This off and on threat to his leadership still continued and at one point of time, many of his Cabinet colleagues had allegedly cautioned him to stand firm. On a few occasions, he was reported to have been allegedly advised by his senior cabinet colleagues loyal to him to even drop the dissidents from the Council of Ministers.

And when the people of Nagaland were still in Christmas festive hangover and not believing of any coup of sort, 22 dissident NPF legislators led by Kaito openly walked away from the 38 NPF legislature group. Many were caught napping and this sudden turn of political development had deepened the ruling NPF crisis to an unprecedented level. But Zeliang took advantage of the unusual political crisis to drop Kaito and Nienu and later Wangnao from his Council of Ministers.

Many political pundits believed that Zeliang might have planned to take support of Opposition Congress much ahead of the open revolt against his leadership as he knew that he would not be able to run his government peacefully unless he destabilized the dissidents. That was why within days of the open revolt, he approached the Governor of Nagaland for summoning a Special Session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to have a “Trial of Strength” of his shaky Government.

It took nearly a month for the Governor to summon a “Special Session of Nagaland Legislative Assembly” for “Floor Test” of his nine month old Ministry. The dissident NPF legislators, however, questioned the motive behind his move for “Confidence Motion” explaining that they were never against their Government in Nagaland but his leadership as NPF legislature party.

Although he won, as expected, the “Confidence Motion” on 5 February without a single legislator opposing it, he could not still run his government smoothly as the final verdict on the NPF party “Cock” symbol was pending in the Election Commission of India (ECI). The dissident group’s going to the ECI, after electing Wangnao as President of NPF, claiming the party’s “Cock” symbol had forced the NPF led by Dr Shurhozelie to fight back.

Zeliang was in dilemma unable to expand his Ministry till such time the ECI pronounced its verdict as it would decide the fate of his Ministry. But only after the ECI issued notification on 27 Marchto both the NPF groups to organize their “General Convention” as per their Party Constitution to end their internal party crisis, things had changed and reconciliation idea came up within them to settle their crisis.

Now, after fully knowing that the game was almost up, Zeliang took the smart move by elevating Parliamentary Secretary P Paiwang Konyak of BJP to Cabinet on 27 April and inducting another five legislators mostly as Parliamentary Secretaries leaving the rest to be inducted in the earlier part of May and that too after the “General Convention” of the party on 30 April.

His keeping in touch with the opposition Congress since the beginning of sailing his boat in the stormy seas was known as he allegedly wanted to chuck the dissident NPF legislators out of his Ministry. And after surviving the political storms with the support of opposition Congress, he had to take them (Congress) along whether it was opposed by the BJP or not. As Taylor Swift says, “Life isn’t how to survive the storm, it’s about how to dance in the rain.”

Finally, he inducted the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Tokheho Yepthomi into his Council of Ministers while other five Congress legislators were appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries on 8 May. Congress leader SI Jamir, Dr TM Lotha (BJP), Imtilemba Sangtam (BJP), N Thongwang (NPF) and Naiba Konyak (NPF) have been sworn-in as Advisers on May 22. The last Congress legislator Imtikumzuk is yet to be appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

So, looking at his last one year government, Zeliang was mostly busy negotiating the political storms and hardly had time for development in the state. The people suffered enough as their representatives remained incommunicado since the beginning of this year due to the NPF leadership crisis.

The Zeliang’s Opposition-less government will not be healthy at all as in a democratic form of government such as ours, the role of opposition is a must so that the welfare state does not suffer. In the absence of Opposition, no government can function effectively. Anyway, this inexplicable political chemistry in Nagaland also becomes the most intriguing political development in the history of Indian democracy.

Zeliang could not much on development front last year as he almost concentrated on survival of his Ministry, besides inheriting huge deficit from his predecessor. He failed to push the state’s Annual Plan discussion to better level either. There was hardly any major development worth mentioning during the last one year of his ruling, while the people had strongly reacted to the serious failure of law and order on some occasions. The unprecedented political crisis in the ruling NPF party had also taken their toll on the development, the people of the state and even the Naga political issue.

But one man who should not be forgotten as well during the entire stormy political journey is Dr Shurhozelie, President of the Naga People’s Front (NPF). He was continuously supplying fuel for the ship to sail through the stormy seas. It is a win-win game for him and Zeliang.

At least, at the end of completing one year of his hot seat, one remarkable thing he has done is inviting his “Manipur counterpart” O Ibobi Singh to Nagaland. As former NDA Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee once said in the Parliament, “You can change friends but not neighbors.” A shot in the arms, indeed! Now let us hope that concentration on development begins.

Zeliang wants NPF to understand importance of opposition-less government

KOHIMA, Apr 30 (NEPS): Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang said, “Reconciliation is the most significant indication of life’s maturity as countries across the globe often appoint ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ Commission for rebuilding rapport between communities divided by conflict.”

Addressing the NPF General Convention at IG Stadium Thursday, the Chief Minister said, “When we realize what is the truth, then reconciliation becomes possible.”

Requesting party men and women to search their hearts to find the truth as a method for reconciliation, Zeliang explained that in the process of reconciliation, every field had its own rule and guideline. “Let us take an example of athletics (running race). If one runs outside the track, whether one comes first or last, he or she will be disqualified at the finishing point,” he reminded. “Therefore, let us be on the right track and do our best for the people.”

He said NPF was not only the oldest party but also the strongest and the most consistent regional party in the North East region. At present, the party was the only ruling regional party in the region excluding Sikkim, holding aloft the torch of “regionalism” in the region, he reminded and further informed that they were the only government in the region aligning with the BJP-led NDA government at the Center.

Stretching of their firm commitment to pave way and even if necessary, for an alternative arrangement to usher in peace and final resolution of the Naga political issue, Zeliang said, “It is with a view to strengthen our collective efforts towards this goal, that we even open to the idea of a consensus government, or opposition-less government in the state.” “I want all our party men to understand this,” he said.

KOHIMA, Apr 30 (NEPS): President of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Dr Shurhozelie said they already started “Reconciliation process” as per the desire of the public as well as the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Disclosing this while addressing the NPF General Convention at IG Stadium Thursday, the NPF President said, “Concerned leaders met on 27th April, 2015 at Kohima and agreed in principle for reconciliation and for which necessary steps have been initiated, particularly few technical points have to be removed to achieve reconciliation in its true form.”

“We have realized that concessions have to be made in the interest of the party’s future and also for the interest of our people,” he said. “Therefore, we can safely conclude that we have reconciled already.”

Dr Shurhozelie reiterated that the first and foremost priority of their party was solution to the Naga political problem and that they needed that badly in order to have peace as without peace, no development in any form could take place.

Without elaborating much, the NPF chief revealed about the precarious financial position of the state which was due to various factors, and further emphasized to go side by side with the concern for solution to the Naga political solution while seeing that the system was brought back to the “society for the economic growth.”

“If need be, strong hands must be applied for achieving the goal,” he said adding, “Do not remain a customer all the time, but be a contributor in the party.”

IMPHAL, April 17: The difference in aspirations among the leaders will never bring any good to the society, lamented Manipur`™s titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba today speaking as the chief guest of the 44th death anniversary commemoration of Rungsung Suisa at Hongmahn Tangkhul Village, Senapati district.

He also unveiled the second twin statues of love, peace and fraternity at the village as part of the observation. The first twin statue was unveiled at Wakha (Leima Ching) on January 3 in connection with the death anniversary of Luching Purel Chingsubam Akaba.

Having a statue which is of two leaders – one each from the valley and the hills is a big achievement and a benchmark of the love and peace prevailing among the different communities of Manipur, he observed.

Leisemba also continued that it is unwise to differentiate the people of Manipur into two sets as hill people and valley people.

The twin statue of the two leaders R Suisa and Chingsubam Akaba, which is a symbol of love, peace and fraternity, he said will lead the people along the path of love, peace and tranquillity.

Today`™s unveiling of the twin statue was jointly organised by the R Suisa Trust and Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup (LUCANIL).

The dignitaries at the function and family members led by the titular king also lighted candles at the grave of late R Ruisa as a mark of respect.

Others who attended the observation chairman R Suisa Trust Dr Ngahorshai Luithui, Tangkhul Naga Wungnaolong president Sweeten Rahing, Hongmahn Tangkhul Village chief Mathankhui Zimik and family of Chingsubam Akaba.

As part of function, members of Social Elevation for Human Resources and Environmental Management Organisation, Manipur (SEHREMOM) offered fruits and vegetables to the twin statue.

Speaking on the occasion, R Suisa Trust chairman Dr Ngahorshai Luithui said that the twin statue of the two leaders is testimony of the unity and love among the people of the hills and the valley.

He said that the twin statue erected at Hongmahn Ground will help in spreading the message of peace and love among the young generation of different communities residing in the State.

Manipuri folk /traditional artist Mangka’s debut album ‘chingda satpi’ which is being produced by award winning filmmaker Oinam Doren will be released on 1st april 2015 in Imphal Hotel by the Classic.

Meetei Folk artist Manka’s Chingda satpi ready to launch

The album which has taken almost a year to complete is a collection of 10 tracks which have been sourced from some of the finest unforgettable folk melodies of Manipur. Mangka’s own father who is also the artistic director of Laihui, a Imphal based traditional music ensemble has given music to the album. The album comes in a CD+DVD package exquisitely designed by Design Stash, a premium design house from Nagaland. “Folk music is generally not composed. They are a spontaneous reaction to our environment or our work culture. We have tried to resonate a feeling of nostalgia through the imageries and illustrations. I was surprised when the talented young Naga designers brought 3 books on Manipuri traditional textiles for reference,” says the exalted producer Doren. He is also collaborating with Kok Designs Imphal trying to create a different ambient for the launch event.

Chingda satpi has been produced by raising funds through pre-order and generous support from friends in India and around the world. The revenue from music sales is almost marginal now due to piracy and free sharing of music and the producer thought it best to follow such a strategy to cover the production cost. Ourvillage, the production company of Oinam Doren has also tied up with other organisations to give the launch a grand scale. Epao.net as media partner, Northeast Buzz as online partner, Classic Group of Hotels as Venue partner, Manipuri Association of Canada & Eastern ceramics as associate sponsor, Times Music (a division of Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd) as digital partner and Laihui as music partner and executive producer.

Padmashree Heisnam Sabitri (international theatre personality), Guru Rewben Mashangva(national award winning folk musician) and Somi Roy (founder, managing director of Emasi foundation) will grace the event as Chief Guest, Guest of Honor and President respectively. Mangka and incredible kids from Laihui will entertain the crowd during the event.

Manipur lad Thaovei V Soto, from Senapati District, bagged gold medal in the 1st World Martial Arts Council Games Festival held at Bangkok, Thailand.

The young lad struck gold in his first outing in the 65-70Kgs category after knocking out his Uzbekistan opponent in the final. He defeated opponents from Iran, Kazakhstan and Brazil in the earlier bouts to reach the final.

The young martial arts star had a hard time going to the games despite repeated success at national and zonal level for the last one year under his coach Khekho Moses, a former martial art medalist. State government’s apathy forced the young lad to meet his own expenses, and with some help from well-wishers and Senapati District Olympic Association Manipur (SDOAM).

The golden boy will be given a grand reception on his return, according to SDOAM. He will be received at Imphal International Airport on 21st March and victory march will be held till Senapati District Headquarters Indoor Stadium, where a grand reception will be held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, SP, civil bodies, tribe Hohos, students, fans and well wishers.

Programme for the reception event includes words from the gold medallist and dignitaries.

The state women football team is undergoing hectic preparation under the watchful eye of Coach, Langam Chaoba for the ensuing 35th National Games in Kerala this month. Imphal Free Press requested Ngangom Bala Devi, the 25-year-old skipper of the team for a brief chat, to which she happily agreed. She recently got the coveted title of `Best Footballer of the Year 2014`™, awarded by the Asia International Football Federation. Born to Ngangom Manihar and Ng (O) Memma Devi of Irengbam Mamang Leikai of Bishnupur District, Bala has three siblings.

It is almost the same story with other women footballers of the state. Bala started playing football among the boys of her locality from an early age. Currently an employee of the Manipur Police Department, amidst her demanding schedule as a sportsperson, she has completed her graduation from Oinam College of Nambol in science stream.

Her first foray into the game at the National level was taking part in the Under-19 Women`™s Championship held in Assam in 2002. There she was declared the best player of the championship. Being a striker of the team, Bala plays swift attacking football. She was awarded with the same title in the following year as well, held in Uttaranchal in 2003.

There has been no looking back for Bala. In 2003, Bala was the best scorer in the U-17 Women National Championship. Her first international play was in Korea republic in AFC`™s U-17 held in 2005. She was declared the `Best Player`™ in the 1st South Asian Football Federation Women`™s Football Championship held in Bangladesh in the year 2010. This was Bala`™s first international title.

She also achieved the `Best Player`™ title in the 15th Senior Women`™s Championship 2007 held in Orissa. Again in the same year, Bala was the `Best Goal Scorer`™ in the 20th Senior Women`™s Championship held in Assam by scoring 29 goals in 7 matches.

IFP: How`™s the preparation going on?

Bala: We are confident of winning the gold medal in the National Games. Though we haven`™t got enough time for coaching and practice, it could have been better the camp is conducted for at least three months. In that way we can be more equip on the tactical part of the game as well the dynamics of the team. But we are ready to give excellent performance.

IFP: We wish you good luck. Tell us; under whose coaching did you started playing in the state and the national level?

Bala: Thank you. Well, I started playing under coaches like Jogeshwor and Shyam for the state level tournaments. For the national level, I played under coach Ekendro. They have been helping me in shaping up my football career.

IFP: And what about family support?

Bala: I should say I have been lucky to a have a family who encourage me so well in taking up sports as a career. On top of that my father was also a footballer. He has been encouraging me to play football since I was young.

IFP: Could you share your view on women football in the state?

Bala: To be frank, the state is now facing shortages of women footballers. I think one of the important reasons is there is less number of football tournaments for women as compared to man. It is true that Manipuri women dominate in Indian football, but on the other hand we need more tournaments to groom the youngsters. To simply put, we need more encouragement in various aspects. Women footballers are not getting enough encouragement as compared with male.

IFP: A few tips to the upcoming women footballers`¦

Bala: Dedication, discipline, and respect for the game. One should always try to learn from the instructors and the seniors, if not it is hard to succeed.

Sanjenthong Construction

IMPHAL, October 16: Even though construction of the Sanjenthong is running far behind schedule, despite the State government`™s repeated assurance to complete it before the Sangai Festival, the government seems to be going ahead with preparations for the festival.

Repairing work has begun along the road stretch from Advance Hospital to Thumbuthong which presently acts as one of the major connection point between the twin Imphal districts, since the Sanjenthong was closed down for reconstruction.

Speaking to IFP, Rajeshwar, the contractor of the road repairing work said that the road stretch is 800 metres long with a width of eight metres from drain to drain.

He said repairing work of the road is undertaken 24×7 with 50 labours and heavy machineries engaged.

There is a strong instruction from the government to complete the work before the Sangai festival, he said before expressing confidence that the work will be completed before Nigol Chakkouba.

Meanwhile, it is also learnt that most of the labours who had left for the Durga Puja and Eid festivals are yet to return to their work site at Sanjenthong which is hampering work progress.

Officials had earlier informed that the labours would start returning by October 7, however only 23 labours have returned in the past three days. 30 more labours are expected to arrive tomorrow.

At the same time, a multipurpose crane which is supposed to unload debris from the Old Bridge and fit girders is said to be stranded at Maram since the past one month.

It is learnt that the master cylinder of the crane`™s brake has been damaged.

It is also leant that components of the bridge made in India have arrived while the important parts to be used to attach the girders and sustain the suspension cables will be exported from France.

Nevertheless, reassembling the parts in India will take another one month, sources said.

Workers present at the work site have also speculated that considering all the hindrances, the construction of the bridge could be completed in another four months.

Meanwhile contrary to all the work undertaken, Rajeshkumar, principal secretary, Tourism Government of Manipur has informed that the State government is yet to decide on the venue for the Sangai festival.
